One more glitch that I noticed. As you can see from the screenshot below, there are a couple of miscoloured pixels just to the left of the Back/Forward buttons

post-289790-1248715066.png

P.S. They are not dead pixels on my monitor, they move as I move my Firefox window around the screen.

Sorry to bump up this old post, but I have the answer: the two weird pixels are generated for an unknown reason by FoxTab. They appear whatever theme you install, though on the default one only the black pixel is visible, since the white one ends up on a part of the interface that is already white.

It seems nobody knows about it, there is only one review of FoxTab (made last February, now on page 22 of the reviews of the addon) mentioning it. I sent an email to FoxTab support on the weekend, let's see if they come up to something. If anybody has any idea how to get rid of them it would be great. Weirder still, the two pixels disappear when FoxTab is displayed and don't reappear until you close it... at what time several seconds elapse before the white pixel appears, then, after a few more seconds, the black one appears also. This happens even if you do nothing and don't touch either mouse or keyboard, just wait.

When using personal menu, the menu button is a lot darker than the other buttons. I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I really don't want to go back through the thread now that it's gotten so massive. :p

If you look at the original mockups here you'll see that the Page and Tools buttons are definitely gray (and almost or completely opaque) while the other buttons are frosted, thus the difference.

Thanks for explaining :).

Ok. I just figured that since all the other buttons were lighter that it was overlooked.

That's true. Mozilla probably did that for basically the same reason, it stands out.

I think it may be because they were highlighting over the Tools button :p

I think it should be lighter color to blend in with the others, then go dark when highlighted, but that's just my 2?

If you look at Version B - Tabs-on-Top, the tools and page button have the same greyish look. So it's definitely not just the hover state.

Everybody has a different liking but we are trying to stick to the style seen in the mockup. We also don't always really like the style of some buttons or backgrounds but it's a theme based on the mockups so we're trying to make it that style.

Still, thank you for the feedback. The current images could need a bit of work but it's not easy to make them look exactly like the mockup. So if you find any other images that don't look good, just tell us. But be sure to counter-check the mockups first.

Well all this timeI've been toying with different back/fwd button placement not liking any of them as the small sized icons looks ugly and large size odd against the smaller standard icons until I found out that clicking the history icon itself presents back/fwd items anyway and the right click history of it is listed immediately below it - now I can get rid of the back/fwd buttons altogether!

Perfect!

Here is more more information from the people working on the 3.7/4.0 proposals:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Sprints/Wi...on_and_Feedback

I wonder if we should continue to mix 4.0 elements into the current theme? or if it would be better to have 2 themes, one for 3.7 and one for 4.0 (though a lot of 4.0 effects like tabs in the titlebar etc aren't possible currently) My personal vote would be to try and stay as true to the 3.7 mockup as possible in one theme and the 4.0 one in another.

In light of the new information on the mockups I'm working on some additional improvements to the Redux3 theme using userstyles etc, the first is that I've hidden the tab progress line on the active tab (I though that might be the way it worked since having it on the tab and on the URLbar at the same time is redundant) userstyles.org is being bullish today so I've put the updated code for my progress line userstyle in the bottom of this post.

They also show the actual content of the Tools and Page buttons (Sadly I don't know how to get 2 menu buttons like that, I only have one, Tools) I mimiced the contents of the Tools menu as closely as I could in Personal Menu, and here is the code to import to get the exact same menu:

menu_newNavigator,menu_newNavigatorTab,----,menu_showAllHistory,history-menu,viewToolbarsMenu,toggle_taskbar,viewSidebarMenuMenu,----,menu_openDownloads,menu_openAddons,----,aboutName,checkForUpdates,menu_preferences,----,menu_FileQuitItem,----,compact-extra-prefs

I've added some additional parts myself, like the DTA! menu next to downloads, and the TMP options next to options, those aren't in there for compatibility's sake, don't know what happens if something in that list doesn't exist.

Most of the page menu's content is useless imo, though some of you might want to put some of it into the tools menu unless you know of a way to get an actual page menu working.

Next step for me is further refinements, though I'm not sure how much I can do from outside of the theme with userstyles, the main gripe I have currently is that the bookmarks menu doesn't work right, if put on the bookmarks toolbar it widens it and it's a long button meant to go next to tools, it's not the small icon the mockup has. The one in the mockup is closer to the Redux3 button that opens the bookmarks sidebar.

I'll also try and get the progress lines on tabs closer to the look in the mockup, not certain how far I can get, it seems to have multiple parts, a background "empty bar" (I already have that, though since it scales horizontally instead of being 3 parts (left, middle right) it's not as good looking a bar that's animated (I could most likely do that with APNG, though PSCS4 doesn't seem to be able to make that) and a glowy bit at the far end of the bar (trying to emulate that with a "blob" at the end of my scaling bar, looks bad when it gets too wide). FF 3.6 supports multiple background images, which would make this child's play, but 3.5 don't.

Not sure how we'd emulate the home tab, though it seems from their latest presentation http://people.mozilla.com/~limi/videos/tal...0-all-hands.ogg that they're not sure themselves what it would actually be used for. (audio isn't the best, it's from a handheld camera in the back, not a mic, and it's mixed wrong, so it's left only, but most of it comes through)

Here is the code of that userstyle, wish code tags here were auto collapsed.

We are sad to say that we have decided to stop work on this theme. It has come such a long way since the first version, and all the feedback and comments have made it what it is today. We feel that SpewBoy has created such an excellent theme, and it is really counter-productive to have two very similar themes available.

We are going to release our latest version with the Page and Home buttons soon, so that we don't leave everyone without a theme. We'll update you on that.

We thank everyone for supporting us through this whole process, and we are now using our creative energy and new found knowledge to create something original.

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you follow me on DeviantART for any new information, concepts, and possible themes. I would also recommend following me on Twitter, where I will try to give as up to date information on our latest projects as I can.

http://twitter.com/BoneyardBrewdm

Thanks again everyone for your amazing enthusiasm and support!

We were discussing this amongst ourselves and were wondering what you guys though.

We are thinking of releasing the final version as a continuation of the latest Firefox 3.7 mockup rather than 4.0. This way it is separate from SpewBoy's theme and gives you an option of whether you would like a 3.7 or 4.0 theme.

So what does everyone think?

I would like to see the finished product. I tried out Spewboys version a while back and found it to be way buggier at the time.

I am using his latest update and it is working really good. Never had any problem and the new one is looking great :-)

Release it as 3.7 NOT 4.0.

Hate to see you guys stop on the theme but I understand the reasons, thanks so much for doing all the work you have done on Redux and we hope to see some great themes from you guys soon.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. We will most likely finish up the theme following the 3.7 Mockup, rather than 4.0. We'll try to finish this while simultaneously working on our new theme.

Thanks again to all of you guys who have showed undying enthusiasm for this theme. We really appreciate it.

I've made a new tab progress line userstyle for the Strata40 0.4.3 theme, it's better looking than my old version.

Go get it: http://userstyles.org/styles/21240 :)

This is the last post I'll make in this thread, I'm moving over to the thread for the new theme. This post will be in both for clarity and closure.

    • It has NEVER been shown that all these overreaching creepy methods of surveillance have ever saved a child or prevented a terrorist attack. Not a single one. It's the kind of people like you who just wave it away as "paranoid conspiracy" that makes big tech and governments this creepy mass data hoarding entities. Not only that, 3/4 of these surveillance ideas undermine the very foundations of safe online communication because they always want to have a backdoor in everything "just in case" they might need it to... checks the notes "save the children". If you put a backdoor into encryption chain there is no encryption chain anymore. You know what encryption keeps safe? Your medical records, your online shopping and credit card during payment, your photos in the cloud, your emails, your passwords, everything. There is ZERO guarantee only the good guys will use it. And if you think police suddenly can't apprehend child abusers because of encryption, Epstein was running his entire sex trafficking ring using GMail which is not even encrypted end to end. Or to make matters even worse, USA has a **** and a good buddy of Epstein as a president. Absolutely NOTHING has been done to address it. Maxwell just got a better "hotel" room as a reward. This clearly shows how they absolutely don't really care about the children but they care about the absolute control over all of us. And you're defending them here. Good grief. On top of constant attempts to insert backdoors into encryption chain, the entire age verification nonsense is again entirely over reaching, creepy, invades everyone's privacy with premise of yet again "protecting the children" instead of demanding device makers to provide simple and powerful tools for PARENTS to control how their children use devices and what they do on them. THIS would be the way, not the stupid age verification for everyone. Imagine if government would be dictating companies how their phones work and not the company's IT department. The parents should be the IT department to their children. And for everyone excusing "they are not knowledgeable enough" buuuuuulsheat. We live in a digital age, if you have children now, you absolutely are well versed in digital everything at least to basic extent. If you're not, how do you even function in these times then? Reality is that parents are just lazy and don't want to deal with this. They want government to raise their kids because they are too busy scrolling stupid Instagram and Tiktok or some bs.

    • Apple is expanding Private Cloud Compute beyond its own data centers by Pradeep Viswanathan At WWDC 2026, as part of the improved Apple Intelligence capabilities, Apple today announced that it is expanding Private Cloud Compute (PCC), its privacy-focused cloud infrastructure for Apple Intelligence, beyond its own data centers for the first time. Private Cloud Compute was designed to handle Apple Intelligence requests that are too complex to run fully on-device. The PCC system does not store user data and does not allow Apple or anyone else to access user requests. Last year, Apple also expanded its Security Bounty program with rewards of up to $1 million for researchers who could find serious vulnerabilities in PCC. Until now, Apple's PCC data centers were using Apple's own silicon. As part of the expansion, Apple is working with Google and NVIDIA to run new Apple Intelligence workloads on Google Cloud systems powered by NVIDIA GPUs. Apple will be using this new infrastructure to execute more demanding AI tasks while maintaining the same privacy and security guarantees of PCC. The new implementation uses NVIDIA Confidential Computing with NVIDIA GPUs, Intel CPUs with TDX, and Google’s Titan chip. Apple says it has worked with Google to build additional protections beyond a traditional confidential computing deployment. Despite the expansion to third-party data centers, Apple claims that its core PCC requirements remain unchanged, including stateless computation, no privileged runtime access, non-targetability, and verifiable transparency. The company highlighted that it will continue to control the PCC software stack, and Apple devices will only trust PCC software that has been cryptographically approved by Apple. To take security to the next level, Apple mentioned that it is maintaining an append-only ledger of Google Cloud hardware that is part of the PCC fleet. The company claims this will help reduce the risk of supply chain attacks. In addition to AI infrastructure, Apple also worked with Google to use technologies behind the Gemini family of models to build the next generation of Apple Foundation Models to power Apple Intelligence features across on-device and cloud workloads. As expected, for more demanding AI tasks like agentic tool use and complex reasoning, Apple will rely on the expanded PCC infrastructure running on Google Cloud. The expansion of PCC on Google Cloud will gradually ramp toward the full set of protections during the summer preview period. As before, Apple will also publish binaries for public inspection, provide research tooling, and give researchers access to live PCC nodes in research mode through the Apple Security Bounty Program.
