^oscar worthy? no... other then the special effects what part of the story was unique or profound? It was like a mix of last of the mohicans, pochantas, and any other story where someone goes undercover and switches sides because he falls in love. the story of the movie was meh at best, 6-7/10.

Special effects and 3d stuff was AMAZING though. like 11/10.

Titanic won oscar, but what's so COMPLEX about the plot in Titanic?

Oscar-worthy does not always have great plot. It's a combination of Great Acting, Emotions, Suspense, Action, movie pacing, execution and using groundbreaking Technology (CG) to tell a great movie that also has DECENT plot that can make you think if you think hard!

Nevertheless, this movie have A LOT of themes (if you can't see them, you are def. blind) they are just NOT In-your-face type, but here and there they are ALL over the movie, but subtlely hinted rather than spell it out for audiences.

the plot was soooo good that i almost passed out twice...

acting was good but not great, and it can't be that when more the half the movie was CGI. The action was good, movie pacing was good, except it could have been shorter.

Yes the movie touched on opression, corporations, human kindness, love etc etc etc but it doesn't automatically make it amazing because it "touches" on so many different aspects.

acting was good but not great

Has to be great, especially Zoe Saldana... remember those are CG people, but totally believable!!!

Main themes I got is "Saving the environment, don't destory Mother Earth" and again I agree the plot isn't mind-blowing, but just the themes are THERE (Subtlely) :)

Not a lot of movies have Mind-blowing plots at all, anyway. The few that do, usually also borrow the resources from elsewhere, too. Not like it's 100% original either..

I would give Avatar a 6-7/10 with a 10/10 for Visuals.

The story wasn't all that bad for the first half of the movie, but then it just seems like they set "CGI thrusters to full". It has so much action I found I got desensitized to it after a while. "Oh there go 10 more helicopters exploding stuff." I was also groaning during a few ridiculous parts of the movie, such as the jumping out of an exploding helicopter while in a mech grabbing a huge weapon. It seemed very clich?. Avatar also forces the aliens down your throat. Unlike District 9 where I partly hated the aliens at the beginning, and throughout the movie was shown small actions that made it possible to empathize with them. In Avatar its more like "Oh wow the aliens look exactly like humans but blue, taller, and with smashed in faces", and throughout the entire movie it keeps re-enforcing that the aliens are peaceful nature love children who are getting fu@#'d over by the humans. In District 9 the aliens were an actual pain for humanity with no real "villain". In Avatar the humans are constantly shoved at the viewer as the villain, with their only mission to get more rare-atanium (lol).

The entire story was pretty one dimensional, and the romance part was totally unsophisticated. "Aww, I have to work together with you and teach you our ways. We'll have to work together a long time and grow close. ... Will you be my life mate? *kiss*" +some other moments (end of romance subplot)

It IS a pretty awesome movie for the visuals, but it feels more like watching an extended unrated cut of a Disney/Pixar movie. The aliens just look stupid, like something you WOULD find in an animated movie for kids. I probably would give Avatar an 8 or 8.5 out of 10 if it was billed as a Disney/Pixar movie for children. Then it could get away with a simple plot, since it's appealing to a different audience.

I think Jedi wants to live with the Naavi.

Jedi, shut up already. Stop trying to say this and that.

As a mature person, I will not flame back but NO need to be so rude though :|

To the person above, so you think the CG Navis, and creatures did NOT look photo-realistic and looked like Cartoon like in Pixar at best?

I'm catching this on IMAX tomorrow night. I'd better be blown away or else I'm blaming someone on this forum for over hyping it.

As we all AGREED, the plot is nothing mindblowing, so when you go see this movie, do not expect a plot that's really deep (like Lost) but treat it as a classical story like Star Wars. And, you should be fine, UNLESS you totally detest any kind of CG movies :)

What humans were CG? and why??

Just because they can :p But seriously thou, humans were actual humans mostly. Except some scenes with Quaritch in that mech suit at the end.

But I just found one other thing worth mentioning - there were no animals or anything with fur anywhere. Kind of CG friendly design there. Thou that isnt bad by any stretch - if anything it even makes it look more distant from earths fauna.

So I'm guessing the 3D experience is worth it... anyone have any problems with watching the movie in 3D such as motion sickness?

I read at Lifehacker that the reason you get sick and headaches is because youre focusing on the wrong parts of the picture

Focus on the objects that are sharp, youre straining your brain and eyes by focusing on stuff that will never be in focus/sharp.

Keep it up jedi :) if only more people were as positive as you. Makes a refreshing change to a bunch of forum douches that crawled out their basements to watch avatar and then make stupid complaints like "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeer it's too long", "Weeeeeeer it's too much like insert almost any movie name here to try and make yourself look cool". (Don't forget, there are always those who will criticise movies regardless of how good they are, i guess some people just need the attention...)

There's being positive, and then there's fanatical extremists, both of you appear to fall into the latter category.

Mediocre plot/acting. The art direction for human stuff (ships, planes etc.) is average. But Pandora art direction is top notch. CGI is amazing. Watch it in 3D at least. If youremvoe the CGI, there is nothingmuch in it.

    • Samsung Galaxy XR arrives in the UK with new AI and enterprise features by Fiza Ali Samsung is bringing its Galaxy XR headset to the UK several months after the device made its debut as the first headset built on Google's Android XR platform. The headset was first teased in late 2024 alongside Google's introduction of Android XR before making its commercial debut in 2025. Developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, Galaxy XR combines mixed reality experiences with Gemini-powered AI features, allowing users to interact with digital content using voice, gestures, and visual inputs. While the hardware itself remains largely unchanged from the version Samsung unveiled last year, the company is using the UK launch to spotlight several software enhancements that have arrived through recent updates. Among the most notable additions is deeper integration with Google's ecosystem. Galaxy XR users can explore destinations through Google Maps' Immersive View, receiving AI-powered recommendations and contextual information from Gemini while navigating virtual environments. Furthermore, entertainment experiences have also expanded; users can watch 180-degree and 360-degree videos on YouTube, browse spatial content converted into 3D, and ask Gemini questions about on-screen content without interrupting playback. Samsung is also highlighting mixed-reality features such as Circle to Search, which allows users to identify real-world objects through hand gestures while using the headset's video pass-through mode. Another feature automatically converts photos and videos into spatial 3D experiences. Moreover, the headset now also supports Android Enterprise, allowing organisations to manage deployments using existing Android management tools. Annika Bizon, Vice President, Product and Marketing, Mobile Experience, Samsung UK & Ireland, talked about the device, stating: The headset is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform and features dual 4K Micro-OLED displays. The tech giant says that users can expect up to 2.5 hours of battery life. Samsung also confirmed that Galaxy XR will continue receiving software and security updates as the company works alongside Google and Qualcomm to expand the Android XR ecosystem. Galaxy XR is now available for pre-order and will go on sale on 8 July. Customers interested in trying the headset before launch can visit Samsung KX in London and selected Samsung Experience Stores from 17 June. Finally, the company will also host a livestream on 19 June showcasing the headset's capabilities and answering questions from prospective customers.
