UPDATE 2: I sent a note to "Supernatural" executive producer Sera Gamble when I heard about the show's renewal for a sixth season. I said I was happy to hear that the show would be returning, but I had to be a little cheeky and ask if viewers would be getting "The Apocalypse 2: The Squeakquel" next season. Here's her response:

"No, you will not be getting Apocalypse, The Squeaquel in Season 6 (that's hilarious)," Gamble wrote. "We're climaxing that story this season. We've been working on the Season 6 storyline for quite some time, and we're very excited about it. We have lots of ideas, and are grateful for the chance to keep the show going.

"Please tell the fans that the writers say thank you! We so appreciate the support."

When I asked a CW representative whether creator/executive producer Eric Kripke would return for "Supernatural's" sixth season, I got a three-word reply: "Yes, he's back."

Supernatural showrunner Eric Kripke has reportedly announced that he is stepping down from the day-to-day management of the show.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the creator of the series will be succeeded by executive producer Sera Gamble.

Despite resigning from his role, Kripke is expected to still be actively involved with the CW drama as a hands-on executive producer with co-showrunner Robert Singer.

"Eric and Bob will be working very closely with Sera," said an insider. "They are not abandoning the show."

The show boss previously stated that he envisioned Supernatural as a five-season show, but has adjusted his stance since the series was renewed for a 6th.

"I'm looking at this season as the [last] chapter in this particular story," he clarified. "That doesn't mean there can't be a new story."

Misha Collins to leave 'Supernatural'?

Misha Collins could be leaving Supernatural at the end of the fifth season, reports claim.

According to E! Online, the actor's contract only runs until the end of the current season and there are no plans as yet to discuss his role in series six.

A source said that Collins, Castiel on the programme, is "hopeful" that he is in line to return next year, but nothing is expected to be confirmed until the writing staff have fleshed out the coming season's story arc.

Yesterday, showrunner Eric Kripke announced that he is stepping down from the day-to-day management of the series.

Meh. I hope the next season isn't some crappy aftershock of the series. Like "Scrubs [med school]" after Scrubs.

Castiel is such an awesome character. He brings a lot of intensity and comedy to the show.

Yeah I agree Castiel has been awesome, Season 6 is sounding **** already :(

Well on the other hand: Castiel was introduced later in the series; it was already great before that. Dean and Sam can carry the show very well.

Still, I hope he'll be in the next season.

true but most of the awesome moments from Season 5 are from him :p

I hope they bring back a bit more of the comedy in the show. I always love the awkward scenes/situations between characters.

Ever since the apocalypse started, the balance between drama and comedy has gotten a bit skewed. Don't get me wrong, I love both parts of the show, but the main attraction to the series for me, was it's lightheartedness.

Yeah there was some really funny episodes, for example the episode where Dean kept dying was really good and the trickster episodes were good

That was the funniest episode by far. *Sam walks away from Dean as a dog barks* "Hey doggy!" *dead*

Castiel has been a huge boom to this already booming show. I told my wife that we might have to consider that name if we have a son.

Agreed Castiel and Bobby are probably the 2 best supporting characters on TV right now. Though Peter Falk and Wim Wenders need to be getting royalties for the Castiel character.

"Mystery Spot" - Season 3 Episode 11. God I loved that episode.

Anyway, the next episode (titled "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid") airs on the 25th of March. Boo!

    • Google Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving for OpenAI by Pradeep Viswanathan Noam Shazeer is best known as one of the co-authors of the 2017 “Attention Is All You Need” paper, which introduced the Transformer architecture that now powers most large language models. He also worked on several major Google AI projects, including LaMDA, before leaving the company in 2021 to co-found Character.AI. He also authored the Sparsely-gated Mixture of Experts (2016) paper, which is popular among the AI community. After falling behind OpenAI and Anthropic a couple of years ago, Google brought Shazeer back in 2024 as part of a major deal with Character.AI. Through this deal, along with Noam, several other researchers returned to Google DeepMind. More recently, he was a vice president of engineering at Google and a technical co-lead for Gemini. Today, Noam Shazeer announced on X that he is leaving Google and joining OpenAI. In his post, Shazeer said it was a difficult decision to move on, adding that he was proud of the Google team and what it had built together. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman welcomed the move with a post of his own, saying Shazeer was one of the people he had most wanted to work with since OpenAI’s early days. Google has made strong progress with Gemini over the past year, closing the gap with OpenAI in several areas. But losing Noam Shazeer is a major talent setback for them, especially after bringing him back less than two years ago by spending a fortune. For OpenAI, the hire adds one of the industry’s most experienced language model researchers to a team that is already pushing ahead with ChatGPT, Codex, and its next generation of frontier models.
