Opera Continues to differ with Microsoft

Lol yeah. Something along the lines that MS is a "convicted monopolist" that forced us poor spider monkeys into becoming incapable of dissociating a logo from the internet in general. ;) :p

What is really wrong with Opera ?

IE has been the most widely used web browser since 1999, attaining a peak of about 95% usage share during 2002 and 2003 with IE5 and IE6.

Now, with IE 8, it is only 65% and Fire Fox is 22.5% while Opera is only 0.72%

Not because IE got worse during the next years, but because Fire Fox Got Better ! Without needing to sue Microsoft or anything, but by just letting the word-of-mouth spread via the forums and magazines which common people use.

Well, they do have a point. Took me so long to train my parents to realise that the IE logo != the Internet. "Omgz, where did the internet go?!" *sigh*

That said, I was kinda looking forward to having all the awesome icons next to each other. :)

Thread title needs to be edited to more accurately describe the situation. Something like, "Opera Continues to be a Whiny B***h" would be appropriate.

Maybe if they spent as much time making a good browser as they do complaining about Microsoft, people would be inclined to switch to them.

When is Opera going to start going after Apple, or some other company?

Ahhh But you know, Apple OS X is not a monopoly, it's a minority so it's not helping Opera's bottom line.

Still, if MS is forced to do such a thing, then OS X should have something similar and same for ALL Linux distro.

And why stop with just the browser? They should do the same for Media Player, IM, E-mail, .....

Even without the blue 'e', it's still going to be called Internet Explorer. IE's the only browser with 'Internet' in the name, isn't that anti-competitive? I suggest they change the name to something that gives you no idea of what the product actually does, in line with 'Opera'. Say, 'Sonata' or 'Lawn Mower'. Oh, and it should be the last choice on the list.

This is what happens when a poorly ran company that doesn't have any real advantages in software is let loose.

It becomes increasingly obvious that Opera simply can't compete and is now resorting to ridiculous tactics and complaints in order to try to push more shares.

Somebody should just point to Firefox that didn't need all this bickering to take the marketshare and be done with it. Even Chrome a browser that's so young has taken larger share then Opera without any other legal help except it's performance and innovation.

This company really needs to be ignored completely and stop wasting courts time and companies' money.

It has come to the point of truly seriously case of whining and complaining about nothing.

I like how everyone's completely glossing over the last paragraph of the article...

Although I agree, this is getting a bit ridiculous. Plus, they still have to update their own logo first and foremost. ;)

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
