World Adventures to be the first expansion pack

EA has sent out details on the first expansion for the Sims 3. Here are the first screens and details.

The Sims are off on an adventure to famous destinations around the world! The EA Play Label of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that The Sims 3 World Adventures, the first expansion pack* to the #1 best-selling PC and MAC game in June 2009**, The Sims 3, is in development and will ship to retailers worldwide the week of November 16, 2009.

"We're thrilled with the global success of The Sims 3 over these last few months and are looking forward to expanding on the gameplay experience with one of the most robust expansion packs to The Sims yet," said Scott Evans, General Manager of The Sims at EA. "Players will be able to take their Sims on the adventure of a lifetime and explore lands outside of Sunset Valley and Riverview, pursue thrilling new life destinies in locations around the world inspired by famous destinations, and immerse themselves in the open-ended gameplay where they'll discover new cities in China, France and Egypt and share new stories."

Players can take their Sims on new journeys to famous real-world inspired destinations around the globe for the first time ever and seek out new adventures. While exploring the landmarks of an exotic city, there is no telling what the Sims will find. From mastering martial arts in Shang Simla, China, discovering rich culture and famous landmarks on a romantic getaway to Champs Les Sims, France or exploring the depths of ancient tombs in Al Simhara, Egypt, players can take their Sims on a journey that will change their Sims' lives. Players can accept challenges to search for secret treasures, learn new skills and chase down new personal opportunities, meet new Sims with unique personalities, share their culture and bring them home, discover new styles on their travels, and share everything they encounter on their adventures with the world through personal photographs, movies, and stories. Additionally, players will receive 1,000 SimPoints to be used online in The Sims 3 Store*** for the PC/MAC versions of the game. Exclusive online content, available only for the expansion pack at launch, will be revealed soon.

I don't see an issue, the people who buy the sims are almost like the WoW players, they get so invested with it and enjoy being fed more content. Of course expansions were lined up for the game, you gotta cut the content line somewhere, and to be fair I think The Sims 3 has a decent amount of content out the box, it's very playable and deep enough.

The pricing on this will be what I'm watching.

I think it's more to do with releasing the EP so soon after the game. It's almost as if it was ready and could have been included with the main game.

It doesn't sound like it's getting released just yet, but in the pipeline.

I'm sure the expansion packs have been planned throughout the development of the game itself. I see no reason to be offended by them myself, as all of the Sims games were still very good if you chose not to buy any.

Anyone who has actually played the game will notice a distinct lack of content, it has obviously been held back for the expansions (which of course everyone saw coming). Who really wants to buy the same expansions over and over for the same game.

Just include the previous expansions as standard in your new releases and stop making mugs out of your fans.

Innovate not regurgitate and all that shizzle.

I haven't noticed a distinct lack of anything. Yes, it's an expandable framework, as was Sims 2. But there has to be a starting point for any software. You can't throw in everything and the kitchen sink before launching.

It is surprisingly early for an expansion, which makes me suspect they'd planned things for a different timeframe and the main product got delayed.

As for including everything from previous expansions...that's a little ridiculous, don't you think? If they'd spent an extra two years on the development, sure that could happen. Or, they could get a solid game out for people to enjoy now.

Only thing that really irked me about Sims expansions was how they never bothered making an ultimate package later on. Even when the game goes obsolete, you still have to install each expansion one at a time, making a mess of your computer. Like it would kill them to make a pack that ran ONE install routine to get the entirety of Sims 2 and its expansions onto your system.

Naturally if this has been done, I retract my complaint. It gets so hard to follow the myriad releases, after all.

Does that include the Complete Sims 1 collection DVD? It had all the expansions. I don't know how it installed, though.

I definitely agree. They should make whatever was in the expansion packs for the previous game and make them standard. There's no Universities in the Sims 3 and that was probably the best EP for the Sims 2.

    • It depends, but it's also going to push more adoption of open source AI models that can run locally, I'm seeing a pattern among the US and China when it comes to closed and open source AI models, they close when they feel they have the advantage, open up when they feel they don't. This has little to do with security and everything to do with control, the irony is that the ones that do go open and get the community behind them are the ones that have the real control, hence why we keep seeing this seesaw from closed to open. Ultimately, it's far too dangerous to let any one country or corporation to control AI, which is why open source AI or AI you can run locally on your hardware is very likely going to be the future of AI over the long run, this is especially the case as AI becomes more powerful and useful for user, privacy, security and censorship will become more of an issue for users and businesses.
    • A person should only be required to click through to an article if they want to know more details. The headline should give basic facts. A basic fact would include the name of the service being shut down.
    • That would probably be a good outcome, but it would also require other "features" be changed to comply, such as Auto play, scrolling, and advertising. Having the laws shift these platforms back to a socially responsible and useful places is a benefit for everyone. The addictive nature is the problem, and while many blame the individual, psychologists would suggest the platform is using a well trodden playbook to hook in more revenue..
    • It is in fact being discontinued in the US in July.
    • It was a rather nice rant as I rather dislike when people support the shitifcation of the Internet. My comment also factually applied the definition of "clickbait' to this headline unlike your comment. I have been reading this site for some 20 years now so I will call them out when they are doing carp they shouldn't be doing but thanks for your concern. You can't even do a search by headline anymore to do a quick search to find something because most of the titles lack all the relevant keywords that should be there.
