PS3 now officially a kick ass unit

Recommended Posts

Important point: There are no GOOD games on the PS3 to justify the price as the thing is, above all else a games machine. the 360 in terms of total gaming needs and sheer variety, kicks the ps3 out the water.

I would disagree that there are no good games on the PS3. I would agree that the 360 has more exclusive games, but to say there are no good games is rather wrong.

Even if it made my christmas lights come on and my amp light at the same time, i would still use the 360 not because its better or worse purley because my friends have one.

Imho its still offically a flop because no one has one.

Sony bought 23.7m units off of themselves and buried them in the Sahara desert confirmed :alien: :shiftyninja:

Again they do the exact same thing, the PS3 doesn't instantly know where the wand is, it has to do the same analysis as Natal, only with less ifnormation provided and some hard coded information, like the size of the ball.

you just need to understand the technology behind it to know they will at the very least have the same resolution. with Natal probably having more precision actually since it has more data, better (dual) data so it has actual depth on every bone that's defined in the simulation currently running, and it has a camera with better low light performance combined with IR lights to work even in almost complete darkness.

As long as you're playing silly jumping around the room games , the wands are ok. but as soon as you move into more esoteric things like face recognition and head tracking, then the PS3 eye falls completely off the wagon compared to Natal. Unless you place the camera on the living room table right in front of you, and place a hot spot light right in your face.

There's absolutely no way I can agree or disagree with you because I haven't seen both pieces of technology show off their finalised head/face tracking.

Isn't that the guy on Top Gear Australia?

I'll defintely be buying the PS3S next year w/ an onkyo AV setup. In fact I believe I'll put my 360 for sale (10 games w/ unit for $350)

Uhhh maybe he was featured for a joke, but if you mean a presenter or something, no

It's the basement guy, Josef Fritzl. I found it rather amusing someone photoshopped old snake onto him, it's a good fit.

At least get a list of games that have come out already...

Finally you'll be able to play...

Metal Gear Basement: Inbreeding?

^ Have you actually been using it? If so, just keep your current PS3. Its not a game changer

Yeah seriously, it's just about as useful as using Sony's built in web browser w/ added headache IMO.

eye patch suits him.

Erm...except the built in browser is quite useful for things like YouTube and iPlayer in the UK.

And it allows games to load up webpages if necessary, unlike the 360 which has zero web browser support.

It's only the slim getting bit streaming? Not an update for the old hardware?

It's not a matter of software. It's a hardware thing. It cannot be fixed on older PS3s.

Don't know about iPlayer but most websites people use (at least in US) you can stream via PlayOn.

Let's face it, PS3s browser is a joke. It's completely unusable and poorly updated with plugins if at all. I personally have not used browser on PS3 since I got my 60gb fatty.

It's much better to integrate famous sites into the consoles interface and make it work/interacti with system's UI than have another headache with browser.

Yeah but that means you need another PC acting as a server. There have been plenty of times I've sat there with my brothers/mates watching random YouTube videos after playing a few games. It may not be a fully featured browser but it works and at least we have the option to use it if we want to. It isn't "completely unusable".

And anyway, I'm not surprised you in particular haven't used it. I've seen your media set up...it's mental! :woot: Someone like yourself would obviously never put up with the PS3 browser when you have so many other gadgets/PCs/etc at your disposal. But average joe and myself find random uses for it because it's there. No harm done :)

I don't know about that. I think they should just do something like make a custom version of Firefox or even Opera, rather than try and make their own crap. Sony just doesn't know how to make a browser, that's the problem. The idea is good, it's just the implementation that's poor.

As for it being a kick ass unit, I think it's always been a kick ass unit. It's just been far too expensive and IMO not as good as the competition. I would expect to see quite a surge in sales now that it's finally a reasonable price.

... I can't leave that list like that...

Warhawk

Heavenly Sword

MGS4

MotorStorm 2

Killzone 2

Resistance 2

LittleBigPlanet

Wipeout HD

Demon's Souls

Fat Princess

Of course.. that's what I've been trying to explain you guys.. I support things that are great, that allow consumer more choice and are priced right.

This, coming from someone who once said Blu-Ray was pure sh*t, incomplete technology and that HD-DVD was SO MUCH better....

Even if it was true at the time, it's still pretty ironic...

I saved $113 on my 160GB PS3 because of the price drop. I went back to the store with my receipt in hand and got some cash. I might just exchange it for the new 120GB PS3. That's another $113 for a slimmer and better PS3. :)

    • Free Software Foundation Europe pushes EU to force Google to allow AI uninstalls on Android by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels Users should be able to fully uninstall AI-based features from Android devices and be able to access interoperability functions, free from Google’s verification requirements, the European Commission has heard as part of an Android interoperability consultation under the Digital Markets Act. These measures were proposed by the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) last week when it submitted its documentation. The FSFE noted that Google had started silently installing AI models without telling users. It noted that the EU’s DMA requires companies like Google to allow users to uninstall pre-loaded software from their devices, but in the case of the AI models Google is installing, they reinstall if you delete them, contravening the DMA. To get Google back under control, the FSFE has told the European Commission that there needs to be improvements within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). First, it said that users should be able to fully remove pre-loaded AI components from their devices, with companies being prohibited from silently reinstalling or reactivating them. Second, access to Android interoperability features should not be contingent on registration, authorization, or contractual relationships with Google. This pertains to Google’s attempt to force developers to register with Google, even to publish apps to alternative app stores like F-Droid. Discussing its submission, Lucas Lasota, FSFE Legal Programme Manager, said: Google is planning to roll out its Android Developer Certification in September 2026. This will force every Android app developer to register with Google before their software can be installed on certified Android devices, but it should affect those who have removed Google Apps from their device. The program is controversial because it entails the signing of contracts and payment of account fees to Google, as well as the handing over of the identities of developers. It said: The FSFE said that if the Commission’s draft measures remain unchanged, then Google will be allowed to make developers verify their identity. The FSFE believes that asking developers to register is contrary to the text and spirit of the law. In summary, the FSFE has told the Commission that no developer should need a Google account, a Play Store presence, or any agreement with Google to access Android’s interoperability features.
