Metroid Prime Trilogy [wii]

Recommended Posts

I had the metal-case special edition in my hand the other night at Best Buy, but decided not to get it (bought my son and I a pair of DS Lites). Is it really that good? I've only played the original on the GC.

The game play is a bit smoother due to being able to aim better. So far I am just at the begining. I will be playing it more this weekend hopefully.

I'm gonna trade my old ones in and get this Tuesday... I liked all three and will be glad to have them all on the same disc with motion control. :) (GameStop has an extra 20% trade-in credit when you trade in 2 or more games towards a new game until the 13th.)

Prime freezing was a common problem due to a badly written scene loader. The game loads rooms while you're in the connecting tunnels and if you go through the tunnel too quickly and the door opens before the level is loaded... BOOM! The UK and NA Player's Choice versions were supposedly fixed so the doors won't open til the loader signals it's finished.

My freezes always happened when changing zones in the elevators. It would freeze right when the name of the zone was displayed. That part I could deal with but what I hated most was the corrupting of the save files. I constantly made backups on memory cards. It would corrupt them as soon as I tried to load them even if they previously worked before.

I think it was the same problem. The elevators had the same function as the corridors. They distracted you from the load time. (The elevator going from the ruins at the end of the game to the last "world" is where mine usually crashed too.) I only had card corruption problems using non-Nintendo game cards.

Wha?! :| :woot:

Yeah, it was pretty cool looking. We were walking up to the checkout, and I saw this little table full of copies of this game, picked one up, and thought it was really heavy (for a game) and really cold. Then really looked at it, and saw it was some sort of collectors edition. Almost bought it just for that fact alone. Might have to go back and get it now, since I'd not heard much about it before.

Just tried playing it.

I haven't played #2 yet but I just tried playing #1. I thought the controls were ****ing awful. The controls felt very unnatural. I want to be able to control his 360 range of motion using the stick not the wimote. Sure aiming with the wimote is nice but not turning him.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
