smashguy
LimeWire is a file sharing program running on the Gnutella Network. It is open standard software running on an open protocol, free for the public to use. LimeWire allows you to share any file such as.mp3s, .avis, jpgs, tiffs, etc. Limewire is written in Java, and will run on Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Sun, and other computing platforms. Publish your original content to the world without setting up a website! What's new: BitTorrent updates: Retain seeding torrents on LimeWire restart Fix more BitTorrent library loading issues Upgraded to libtorrent version 0.14.5 [*] Torrent downloads are checked for dangerous files. [*] Increase speed on a cold startup. [*] Remove some unnecessary Singleton usage in UI. [*] Change Guice environment from Production to Development to prevent @Singletons from being eagerly loaded. [*] Obscene content filter. [*] Don't allow spam results to be downloaded until they've been unmarked as spam. [*] Keyword filters are applied to browses and XML metadata. [*] Add the ability to rename a file. [*] Fix OS X launcher. [*] Re-write chat so it isn't initialized on LimeWire startup. [*] Fix receiving duplicate chat messages. [*] Fix a bug that allowed friends to download more than 3 files at a time. Quillz
I do wonder how many people still use this over BitTorrent and other means of distribution, but it's nice to see they're still keeping it updated. I actually gave LimeWire 5 a try a while ago and liked that they overhauled the user interface. techbeck
Sorry, not offense to anyone here, but if anyone still uses Limewire, they are not very smart. Tons of viruses and malware in pretty much everything you DL. I dont know how many friends/family PCs I fixed because of Limewire...I lost count. Subject Delta
Never had a virus from it here, if you keep your Antivirus software up to date, anything you download will be picked up before you even have a chance to open it. Oh and this topic is a bit out of date seeing as 5.3.0 is final Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/816862-limewire-530-beta-released/#findComment-591887128 Share on other sites

Subject Delta
You claim that everyone is certain to get a virus from Limewire yet you don't even know what the RIAA is? Funny... No offence but for anyone who posts on tech forums to not know who the RIAA are, is suggesting they have been living under a rock for about the last 9 years Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/816862-limewire-530-beta-released/#findComment-591887226 Share on other sites
Randolph
Wtf Is the RIAA The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a group which represents the recording industry distributors in the United States. Its members consist of record labels and distributors, which the RIAA say "create, manufacture and/or distribute approximately 85% of all legitimate sound recordings produced and sold in the United States".[1] Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/816862-limewire-530-beta-released/#findComment-591890342 Share on other sites

C_Guy
Who says you need to "pay" for it? :shiftyninja: Exactly. It doesn't make any sense to pay for software where its sole purpose is to pirate materials for people with entitlement complexes. It would be just too ironic. Suppose someone's gotta present an opposing side to people who are self titled E-Police, and people with RIAA is god complexes. Sometimes I wonder if you actually work for the RIAA yourself.
