How good a ram do i need to overclock my i5 750 to 3.4ghz?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im about to buy the core i5 750 and wanted to know if i buy a ram with speeds of 1066 is that good enough to overclock or would i need higher speed ram to attain cpu speeds of 3.6ghz or higher. Default speed is 2.66ghz.

Does the Ram speed drop when overclocking the CPU? or does the ram speed need to be dropped in order to attain higher CPU Speeds? or is it something else altogether?

pls help me understand the workings of memory when overclocking the cpu.

Thanks in advance!!

depends on the RAM obviously like you are saying, but when you overclock the RAM speeds tend to get faster, but you could change the RAM speed multiplier too and could make it slower if you want to. I like OCZ and Corsair RAM so i would go for those.

Also apparently those new i5 are really easy to overlock, you should be able to hit 3.5ghz no problem from what i have read on the web.

why would people want to make the ram speed slower?

Because thats how you OC as when you up the Base Clock (Bus speed) it clocks the RAM up too.

so how do u buy good ram for overclocking? do you look at the brand? speed of the ram? latency? what kind of ram limits you to OC'ing?

So for an i5 to hit 3.6GHz you need at least DDR3 1600MHz with a Base Clock of 180MHz ram set to 1066 which gets clocked up to 1440MHz.

As for Brand stick with:

CORSAIR (XMS Series)

OCZ

Kingston HyperX3

Crucial Ballistix

Really any non Value Select should do.

Voltage:

under 1.65V

Timing:

8-8-8-24 or lower but even 9-9-9-24 will not be that bad.

r u sure???? i think ddr 2 would run on it..

nope.

the memory controller(IMC) is now in processor

i5 has only memory controller for DDR3

so you will never see DDR2 based motherboard for i5

This is only true of the 1366 i7 chips. For the 1156 platform, the memory controller is no longer on the CPU.

*facepalm*

    • In a major surprise there is actually some good deals for the first time in years. At least for me.
    • Limited time Prime Day deal cuts price of this Hisense 65" 4K smart TV in half by Ivan Jenic It’s Amazon Prime Day, and brands are offering great deals to consumers. One of the best deals of the day is definitely this Hisense 65" U7, which is currently $799.99 on Amazon, down from $1,499.99. That's nearly 50% off and $700 saved on this feature-packed 4K TV (purchase link down below). The U7 uses Mini-LED backlighting with up to 3,000 local dimming zones and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. That means blacks are truly deep and highlights are punchy enough to hold up even in bright rooms. The screen is covered with a dual-layer anti-reflection coating, which prevents the afternoon overhead lights from washing the picture. For gaming, the native 165Hz refresh rate and VRR 330 support make this one a great TV option for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The TV even features a native game mode, which should help minimize the input lag for a better gaming experience. Audio is handled by a 2.1.2 channel system tuned by Devialet, which is a notable partnership for a TV at this price. Additionally, Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and IMAX Enhanced are all supported. It runs Fire TV with Alexa+ built in. So, if you’re looking for a sharp, large screen to watch the World Cup on, the U7 at this price is definitely an attractive option. Speaking of which, Hisense is the official sponsor of the World Cup, which should mean absolutely nothing to you, and isn’t the reason why you should by this TV. The reason why you should buy it is that it’s “la bella televisione, HDTV-compatible, beautiful,” and available at half the price.
