what's keeping you from getting a MAC?

2 things.. cost it cost too much to get a decent system... even though there is the mac mini.... i want a tad more but not quite an imac

2: a mid desktop model.. more than a mini... possibly the size of a shuttle or a microatx case. with a 799 price tag?

3: ive tried it out.... and really i dont wanna spend a grand for all i do is internet and play gta multiplayer san andreas............

^ Using AMD/ATI would probably lower the price at least.

No, it really really wouldn't. In fact, Apple would probably charge MORE, to cover the "R&D costs" of making sure OSX runs on AMD processors properly... They know the fanboys will swallow any BS they shovel out.

I have an apple but recently my kid put a small disc in the superdrive and it got stuck. This voided my warranty so it'd cost me $800 to get a new drive & have it installed. This would stop me ever buying another mac

For me, it's simply the price. It's nothing short of extortion. I've used Macs several times in the local store we've got (not an Apple Store unfortunately, but it is an Apple Authorised Reseller, and it follows the Apple theme pretty well). I've been using Windows since the 95 days, but it didn't take me long to get adjusted to Mac OS. There's a couple button combinations I couldn't work out (does anyone know how to replicate Windows' Alt + F4 command in Mac? :p ), but besides that, it was pretty enjoyable.

Another thing I don't like is the Mighty Mouse, but if I do ever switch, I've got a Logitech MX Revolution, so no problems there! :p

The last thing I don't like is the sort-of lack of support for games, but I know it's on the increase nowadays, and if I do want to play any of my Steam games or something that isn't supported on Mac, I can simply install Windows 7 along with Snow Leopard! :p

games, price, lower performance per dollar (imacs vs desktops) and lack of customisability. i love the macbooks but the regular imacs don't cut it. They don't have the option to upgrade the graphics card, sound card, put in 2,3,4 hard drives, 2 optical drives and so on. even though you could argue that the mac pro is customisable, you'd lay out a fortune for it and get nothing much for what you pay.

The Mac equivalent to Alt+F4 is Cmd+Q.

And can't stand the business model. Like Apple is tending to go with their own standards (like mini-display). Overpriced hardware (the monitor prices are just insane) but I must admit that OSX is a great OS. They really should release it for PCs.

LOL this thread is funny, Windows users justifying why they use Windows rather than Mac OS X.

1. hardware is not the issue ROFL.... You don't say hey that Ferrari has a 4lt engine and so does a ford xr6 so I'm not buying the ferrari based on it having pretty much the same specs.

2. You pay for what you get.

3. Yes it doesn't play games (that's all it doesn't do)

4. It does everything a Windows machine does without the virus' and spyware.

I'll keep laughing at this thread its a good one! :)

price, user interface, price, lack of software, price, reliability, price, design flaws in the hardware, price, apple's contempt for their customers, price... the list could go on

I owned and used a Mac for several years. I no longer do because:

1. I don't personally care for OS X.

2. I had constant problems with my iMac overheating and discs getting stuck in the slot loading drive.

3. I don't like the look of them since they brought out their new metal (aluminium?) machines.

Hardware wise I don't think they're any better than any other brand and not worth the extra cost. And OS wise I think Windows 7 (or even Windows Vista) is way nicer to work with.

    • Steam Next Fest returns with thousands of new demos to try out by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Valve has been routinely kicking off demo festivals on Steam for years now, and the second drop of 2026 has just opened its doors. It's a great opportunity for any PC gamers to find some interesting games before they release. The June edition of Steam Next Fest is a week-long digital festival including gameplay slices from a large number of indie developers, though a few major publishers are involved this time too. Interested players can use the Next Fest hub page's various sorting and filtering options to easily sort through the hordes of demos available. The top buttons offer quick access to separate and important sorting options, including "By Genre, By Theme, By Feature," with each one offering more granular settings when clicked. At the same time, the built-in Steam tags system is also available below every page to discover new games more quickly. As always, logging in will also enable Steam gamers to utilize Valve's recommendation algorithms to find game demos they might like, specifically, depending on their past play and purchase histories. This time there is even a toggle now to swap between getting a random and personalized selection as Valve collects more data on the available demos. The Charts section is where you can find the most popular demos on the platform right now, offering up the most hyped titles in a simple list. Right at the kickoff, Mistfall Hunter, Empulse, Echoes of Aincrad, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Over the Hill, Mortal Shell II, and more are trending. Expect this list to change as the week progresses. This edition of the Steam Next Fest is slated to end on June 22 at 10 AM PT. Valve's latest event is now open, and it can be accessed by going to the dedicated hub page here.
    • I lived and breathed MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger. Going to the mess.be website (still online with no changes since 2013) to download display pictures etc. I was a beta tester for Messenger Plus! and spent quite a lot of time on the MsgPlus! forums (a read-only copy is still online at https://shoutbox.menthix.net) Some old Neowin articles also https://www.neowin.net/news/messenger-plus-350/ good times but how time flies
    • Well i'll look into a docking station if needed and use that.    Normally i don't usually have all the drives connected at once,  usually once a month to sync the latest files, and then they go back in there storage area
