what's keeping you from getting a MAC?

LOL this thread is funny, Windows users justifying why they use Windows rather than Mac OS X.

1. hardware is not the issue ROFL.... You don't say hey that Ferrari has a 4lt engine and so does a ford xr6 so I'm not buying the ferrari based on it having pretty much the same specs.

2. You pay for what you get.

3. Yes it doesn't play games (that's all it doesn't do)

4. It does everything a Windows machine does without the virus' and spyware.

I'll keep laughing at this thread its a good one! :)

don't turn this into a fanboy war. We have had fanboy wars over and over and over....

if you like something, just state why you like it without insulting others opinions.

Urgh, just because something has an advert you don't like doesn't make it bad.

I don't understand you people, it's the product that matters.

you have a 360 don't talk about reliability! ROFL!

Hurrr! How relevant! :hmmm:

I own several computers from various vendors, including Apple. But, I don't think I will get any more MACs. And the reason is Apple ads. I guess those ads have a reverse effect on me!

What about you guys?

Just because of Ads? Mac's are good and if I had the money to buy I probably would.. I really think most complaints your gonna find in this thread is the money issue and I'm very suprised apple has not pushed out any kind of "value" build.

What's preventing me from getting a Media Access Control address? :p

Seriously though, absolutely nothing. Made the switch completely back in 2003 when the whole Longhorn / Vista debacle was slowly unfolding and never looked back. Looking at Windows Vista and 7 I don't have any regrets.

In terms of build quality and the suitability to the work that I am doing, I don't see much of a difference between a thinkpad and an apple.

and yes, I don't see a problem in buying something just because I like it for one reason or another. As a matter of fact, it is sometimes more important to buy something that you like.

Comfortableness? They're pretty comfy, mate. Sit snug in your lap, or where you on about taking it outside and getting nicked?

dude, why are you trying to argue with him...are you using his computer?

Not how I meant it.

I am comfortable using Windows operating system.. switching to Mac just seems like it would be too hard to adjust for me, as I am comfortable with PC's.

It's really about preference, I have had my Mac for awhile and I don't think I would ever buy a PC again. I currently have OSX,XP and Windows 7 installed on my machine. I prefer OSX so I use that the most, but I also have some programs that require Windows. To me each of these operating systems are like tools, I use all of them for different reasons. I don't get this made up rivalry, so what if one uses a PC or a Mac. Neither are inferior to the other, it's just a freaking computer.

Because I don't want people to perceive me as someone like this guy. Comparing a Mac to a Ferrari...moronic. The day I start quoting marketing drivel is the day that I hope someone punches me in the face to wake me up.

On-topic; I've owned several Macs over there years. And all of them, once the initial interest wore off, just sat there gathering dust until I sold them or gave them away. I'd never end up *doing* anything with them, and seemed to get more done in Linux or Windows on my PCs.

Simply because of the price, i just cant afford it... i also think that for the price of a mac you can build a really impressive PC.

I have a PC with Windows and OSX.. i mainly use OSX so i can use Logic Pro, and keep windows for WOW.

Now i could sell my PC and add the extra for a mac, but what's the point? i could upgrade my PC to a mac equivalent for only a fraction of the price, i don't see what the sense would be in doing that, at all?

Saying that, if i could afford the mac i'd probably do it, for the reason that i love Logic Pro and it's built for a mac.

Some of the reasons in this thread are pathetic, as if you would let fanboy status influence a decision on buying.

I was just wondering when this was going to happen now I can start laughing too

Oh yeah sorry 360 isn't made by MS I forgot and it isn't premade hardware and its not a computer at all... Sorry I brought it up how completely irrelevant.

:p

Glad we can laugh together, just remember when checking this thread please turn all antivirus and spyware protection on for your computers safety. Also don't worry about using the windows command prompt it really isn't very user friendly :D

Price, plus I find the OSX quite boring tbh. I have a Macbook but I removed OSX and installed Windows 7 instead. :D

Windows is just as boring, if you want something to customize and not boring go for a linux distro

Edited by offroadaaron

Price, is the major factor. But also, the after sales cost. If a Mac goes wrong out of warranty, or you don't buy the Apple Care support. You are well and truly stuffed right? I dunno what support Apple offer out of warranty. However, if a PSU goes kaput in my PC, it'll cost me about ?30+ to replace it. (Upto ?100 if I go for a decent one). But well, Apple can charge me whatever they wish and there is no alternative.

No getting away from the fact that an iMac or Macbook arveryb> nice. It's just the extortionate cost you have to pay for the privilage that holds me back.

1. price

2. offers me nothing that I can't do with Windows

3. don't own an IPod/IPhone nor will ever

4. Mac Fanboys

5. Steve Jobs (what arrogant ****)

6. ITunes

7. Quicktime (what a piece of ****)

8. I ****ing hate the whole pretentious/superiority complex surrounding Apple

ROFL are you seeing someone for these issues :p

Before I got my MacBook, price and the adverts put me off for a long time because of the way they insult people who choose to use Windows. Sure it's only an ad but they were my only source of information about Macs and they were aimed squarely at people who struggle to use Windows or worry too much about their self image.

When I actually got a chance to play with OS X I was hooked, and that's why I went on to get my MacBook. As much as I appreciate the hardware of my laptop it's the OS that really got me.

Currently their desktops are far too expensive when I can just build my own (and have more fun that way). Also, for my desktop computer I only run Windows; it would seem silly to get a Mac and then never use OS X with it.

Thread was going nicely when people stayed on topic and didn't have to argue.. :pinch:

    • EA launches in-game advertising platform for brands to "connect with audiences" by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The gaming giant Electronic Arts is exploring more ways to inject real-life brands into its games. Announced today as EA Advertising, the new platform is attempting to make it easier for brands to reach out for deals with the company and put their products inside titles like EA Sports FC, Madden, NHL, Skate, or The Sims. EA revealed that its EA Sports side of the company brings in "hundreds of millions of players across console, PC, and mobile" every year. Fan engagement of these titles was also touted as being "extraordinary," with 23,000 NFL seasons worth of games being played in Madden NFL daily, while EA Sports FC sees over a billion matches a day. “Players come to EA’s games and live experiences every day to play, watch, create and connect,” said David Tinson, Chief Experiences Officer at Electronic Arts. “That gives brands a meaningful opportunity to show up in ways that add value and respect the player experience, while maintaining authenticity in the worlds our teams are building. With EA Advertising, we’re helping brands become part of those moments in ways that are relevant and built for players.” Using the new program EA Advertising, brands will be able to inject their products into games in real-time via dynamic placement. EA says partners will have access to everything from stadium signage in sports games and targeted adverts to in-game content custom-made for the brands. These are described as additions designed to "enhance, not disrupt" experiences. "In these interactive gameplay environments, brands become part of the game itself, reflecting how players engage with advertising in real-world contexts," adds the company "Brands can activate across live environments, tailoring placements to meet campaign objectives, and update campaigns with ongoing optimization informed by aggregated engagement insights." Current real-world brand partnerships EA has built into its games include Visa (EA Sports FC and College Football), Lowe's (EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and College Football), Red Bull (EA SPORTS FC), Xfinity and Peacock (EA SPORTS FC), and Mountain Dew’s (College Football).

    • UK to ban under-16s from social media following a six-week trial with teenagers by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels A few months ago, Neowin reported that the UK was trialing a social media ban with 300 teenagers for six weeks, that testing has come to an end, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the country will ban under-16s from social media. Starmer said that this technology is making children unhappy and making it easier for bullies to harass and abuse them. He continued to talk about the addictive nature of social media, saying that it uses an infinite scroll designed to lock users in for hours. He said this interferes with children doing their homework, reading, playing with friends outside, and going to bed on time. Tackling the idea that nothing can be done about social media, Starmer said: The government’s action won’t stop at social media either, the PM said. It plans to take action on gaming services and livestreaming platforms. Right now, he said, strangers can contact any child unchecked. He said this wouldn’t happen in real life, and the government is going to stop it from happening online, too. The Labour government has overseen the introduction of the Online Safety Act, a big change to the internet which includes age verification on adult websites. This has led to a fair bit of backlash, but overall, the government is pushing ahead with these changes.
