Just got my Wii!

Recommended Posts

I am the proud new owner of a Wii!! I picked it up yesterday along with a component cable and Mario Galaxy. I have a PS3 which I use for streaming as my DVD player and I've already played my Wii more than I've ever played my ps3 in about 6 months. I'm a hardcore pc gamer but wanted the wii for parties and to get some excercise as well as get off the computer because I've been working on it for about 15 hours a day now. I've heard so many people say their wii is collecting dust, I don't really know why unless they are just into console shooters, I have a very nice pc and enjoy shooters on it very much, but it can't do what the wii does. So anyway -

What games/peripherals do you guys recommend? I'm planning on getting punch-out, zelda: Twilight Princess and Mario Kart. I will eventually get wii fitness for some working out and maybe the wii resort thing. Other than that I'm not sure. I need to get three more controllers for parties and probably a charging dock. Does anyone know where to get them at a good price? It looks like those 3 alone will cost at least $150, that is madness but I guess they are pretty complex devices. I know I can find used games for around $25 on Amazon but the wiimotes are about the same. So really I need the most help finding them cheaper.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Who knew I'd love my wii more than my ps3?

Wii Sports Resort, if you liked the first one, you'll love the 2nd one. Me and my family play the basketball, golf, swordplay, and archery.

For myself, I play the crap out of wakeboarding. It's litterly a workout! Imagine yourself doing pull ups or situps. Esp. if you get into it you really work the whole body. My arms were totally sore for 3 or 4 days after I tried for about 5 hours to beat my own personal record of 2001 lol.

Whew.

I can see why people say the console collects dust. For a good while, after Mario Galaxies, Mine was just sitting there. It's more of a family console system vs single player fun like the PC, 360, or PS3/2. 3rd party developers haven't made that many games for the Wii for single player use overall and the good ones are by Nintendo (with the exception of kart wii I didn't favor it that much. But you got other ones like Galaxies, Zelda etc).

But I def got my $49.95 worth out of wii sports.

yea, there's nothing like the first days...

i sold mine just before the price-drop. got lucky. it wasnt doing anything but collecting dust.

there's only so much mario one could stand.

just wasn't for me. im the only hardcore gamer in the house.

glad to hear you're enjoying yours though. can i recommend Zelda-Twilight Princess? it was the only game i enjoyed for more than 2 days on the Wii.

For games, I'd recommend

Mario Party 8

Metroid Prime 3, or just get the trilogy

Madworld

The House of the Dead Overkill

Raymen Raving Rabbids - I haven't played the other Raymen games.

Zelda Twilight Princess is an awesome game as well, but you already have that picked out.

Also I'd recommend you getting Homebrew on your wii. Not only does it let you play backup games ;). There are many different applications that you can install on it as well. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Main_Page

If you are interested in the Homebrew front, and need more info on that. Your welcome to PM me.

Thanks for the suggestions, the homebrew def was a selling point. I do want to buy most the games though, at least used, because I believe a good product should be paid for and I tend to um try pc games before I buy or at least get really good word of mouth about them, a good example was l4d on pc. It was $25 one weekend and I hadn't heard of it after reading about it I jumped on it and it was great. That doesn't happen on consoles at that price.

I am loving having something totally different from my pc gaming, which will always be my #1, it's a nice change and has a lot of different things to offer and I can play with friends during parties.

Games i have "acquired" that i recommend,

Mario & Sonic @ the olympics and winter olympics (separate games, winter being the new one comin out this month) possibly the best games for the wii i think, and bloody hard work lol, they proper tire u out!

Mario Kart - Great game and u can play online against other ppl

Rayman Raving Rabbids Tv Party - This is the game me and my friends play at the mo after completing mario olympics, its very random and fun, can use the wii fit board if u have one or get one

Super Smash brothers - Possibly my favourite nintendo game ever, you take control of random character such as mario or pikachu, zelda, link etc and beat the crap out of other characters lol

Legend of Zelda TP - This game is worth the money on gameplay alone, 20 hours in and im only 35% through it, puzzels are kinda tricky at times, also a bad point is saving, regardless where u are in the level when u save it, when u quit the game and come bk ull be bk at the start of the level, so can be hard/annoyin findin ur way bk to where u were when u left, so my advice only quite the game when uv completed a level lol

Super mario galaxy, i quite like this game, its fun, not too hard, though the end is annoying when u find out u only have to complete half of the levels to complete the game

Mario Party 8 - Its an alrite game, but if ur with more than 4 ppl ( or have more ppl than controllers, the other ppl will get bored watching, as its a kinda slow game

    • Steam Next Fest returns with thousands of new demos to try out by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Valve has been routinely kicking off demo festivals on Steam for years now, and the second drop of 2026 has just opened its doors. It's a great opportunity for any PC gamers to find some interesting games before they release. The June edition of Steam Next Fest is a week-long digital festival including gameplay slices from a large number of indie developers, though a few major publishers are involved this time too. Interested players can use the Next Fest hub page's various sorting and filtering options to easily sort through the hordes of demos available. The top buttons offer quick access to separate and important sorting options, including "By Genre, By Theme, By Feature," with each one offering more granular settings when clicked. At the same time, the built-in Steam tags system is also available below every page to discover new games more quickly. As always, logging in will also enable Steam gamers to utilize Valve's recommendation algorithms to find game demos they might like, specifically, depending on their past play and purchase histories. This time there is even a toggle now to swap between getting a random and personalized selection as Valve collects more data on the available demos. The Charts section is where you can find the most popular demos on the platform right now, offering up the most hyped titles in a simple list. Right at the kickoff, Mistfall Hunter, Empulse, Echoes of Aincrad, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Over the Hill, Mortal Shell II, and more are trending. Expect this list to change as the week progresses. This edition of the Steam Next Fest is slated to end on June 22 at 10 AM PT. Valve's latest event is now open, and it can be accessed by going to the dedicated hub page here.
    • I lived and breathed MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger. Going to the mess.be website (still online with no changes since 2013) to download display pictures etc. I was a beta tester for Messenger Plus! and spent quite a lot of time on the MsgPlus! forums (a read-only copy is still online at https://shoutbox.menthix.net) Some old Neowin articles also https://www.neowin.net/news/messenger-plus-350/ good times but how time flies
    • Well i'll look into a docking station if needed and use that.    Normally i don't usually have all the drives connected at once,  usually once a month to sync the latest files, and then they go back in there storage area
