MW2: No Dedicated Servers, No Mods

Recommended Posts

Wow.. that's seriously ****ed up.. 190 $ for that..

Yea it's messed up, but what can you do? If you want internet access.. you have to pay. Obviously they have cheaper plans, but if you want to use VOIP or anything like that for calling home you will have to get one of the faster packages. Pretty much every service they have out here is a rip off. They are just taking advantage of the people that have to live and work here.

no one cares about PC gaming anymore. PC game sales were in the hundreds of thousands and consoles were in multi million digits. its a cost cutting venture. its already selling more than COD2 and 3 combined which is further proof consoles are where this game is sold

I dunno if any of you already saw this article at Arstechnica Link

But there was an interview held with InfinityWard about the PC Game version and there has been some new things learned. Just to go through what we know now and what we learned from this interview

--- What we already knew ---

1. No Dedicated Servers

2. No custom Maps

3. No Mods

--- What we know now ---

4. Person who is hosting the match is picked at random. If they leave the game, the game pauses for 5 seconds while another user in the game is chosen to host.

5. No console in the game, you cannot customise the game in any way

6. No leaning like in the original COD4:Modern Warfare

7. You cannot record matches. /record = Does nothing

8. No way to Kick or Ban cheaters/hackers

9. Maps are confined to 18 Players maximum aka 9 vs 9

So, you are telling me a greedy Activision would rather alienate PC gamers and totally lose out on ~500,000 sales at $60 a pop?

Somehow, I doubt that very much. It may not be the 10+ million it sells on consoles, but at 500,000 sales on PC let's say, that's STILL $30 million smackaroos they just tossed out the window. Whether the PC is a dying gaming platform or not, that is a MORONIC thing to do as a biz.

I could careless if the game has the best netcode ever created. I could careless if the host doesn't have a zero ping advantage or not.

The fact is, the PC version is so gimped it's a joke. I thought Resident Evil 4 without mouse support was horrible. I thought things couldn't get much worse than a PC version of a game NOT supporting a mouse. But IW and MW2 take the cake now.

You can't even kick/ban people who are trouble makers or hacking from a server! What the hell kind of CRACK were they smoking over at IW this time?

I seriously, seriously hope Treyarch when they make COD6/7 (whatever) or WaW2 (whatever) don't go this route also. God damn IW really ****es me off to no end right now. I'm seriously considering uninstalling COD2 and COD4 and trading in my copies of COD2 and 4 for 360 and never ever supporting them again unless they fix this situation somehow.

Idiots.

18 players max, yeah f that, this game isn't going anywhere near my hard drive. I play PC games for crazy amounts of people line, which is why COD4, WOW, etc are so popular. People don't play it for the game so much as being with alot of other people, you take that away and you kill it all. IW/Activision, got a little to full of themselves with this release.

When we are up to believe into Treyarch to return the situation, we are REALLY desperate...

Infinity Ward went off the deep end.

Treyarch could make a better game than Cod6, and they're awful.

Activison Blizzard is ****ing us over with this, and no LAN for SC2.

At least Valve fixed Left 4 Dead 2 and made it actually worth buying.

Infinity Ward has no intention to change anything.

What is a horse shoe? What does a horse shoe do? Are there any horse socks? Is anybody listening to me?

Haha, that feature comparison chart is great, LOC. More money for less features? Count me in!

EDIT: I just had to take this opportunity to share these great photos I found on Ars (originally from Evil Avatar if I read properly):

And the second one is too big to post: http://static.arstechnica.com/drawing2.png

Why all the fuss?

People into online gaming must have at least 512Kb/s upload rates. That's more than enough to host a match.

It's not like everyone's still using dial up :p

not if you have 5 or more players, it starts to get laggy. not that I was buying this game anyway. Got bored of cod, cod2 was the best would still play it if there were a lot of players on it.

    • After enabling it in about:config, customize, density, compact; the toolbar/address bar gets smaller vertically. I enabled Nova, I notice the tab bar/title bar is a bit larger vertically now? Everything always becomes a waste of space.
    • Microsoft's Copilot Cowork now generally available with usage-based billing by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in March, Microsoft first revealed Copilot Cowork, a new agentic AI experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot through which users can assign tasks to AI to complete in the background. After testing the service with a limited set of customers in Research Preview for a few weeks, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork to customers in the Frontier program on March 30. Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork worldwide for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers. The company also highlighted that Cowork became the fastest-growing feature in the history of its Frontier program. Unlike regular Copilot Chat, Copilot Cowork can run complex, long-running, multi-tool tasks from start to finish in the cloud by using organizational context through Work IQ. When compared to Claude Cowork, Microsoft claims that Copilot Cowork will be 30% to 40% cheaper on average with its Microsoft 365 connector. For now, Copilot Cowork runs on Anthropic models, including Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6. However, Frontier customers can now use GPT-5.5. Microsoft also announced Cowork 1, a secure fine-tuned model coming in the next few weeks, which is designed to handle everyday Copilot tasks at a lower cost. To access Copilot Cowork, a Microsoft 365 Copilot user subscription is required. Usage is billed separately through Copilot Credits, based on model use, context retrieval, tool calls, and runtime. Pay-as-you-go pricing is set at $0.01 per Copilot Credit. To offer IT teams full control over usage costs, Microsoft provides spending limits, usage alerts, user-level controls, reporting, and prepaid usage plans for organizations. Usage-based billing begins today. However, Frontier customers who used Cowork between March 30 and June 16 will not be billed until July 1, 2026. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app now includes a toggle to enter the full Cowork experience. Microsoft is also adding partner plugins, with Enosix, Harvey, LSEG, Miro, monday.com, Moody’s, Morningstar, S&P Global Energy, and TeamsMaestro available now. Adobe, Atlassian, Box, Canva, Databricks, and others are coming soon.
