Apple store UK question...

Recommended Posts

I placed an order for the new iMac yesterday morning and my status is still 'not shipped yet' how long does it usually take them to ship the item?

I know i ordered it on a sunday but i was expecting it for tomorrow (tuesday) ... there was no quick delivery option so i guessed it would just be a day.

I also used my educational discount, but going through the buying process on the site i wasn't asked to prove my educational status... surely they must require some sort of ID?

In the US anyways, I went to my local Apple Store over the summer to buy a Macbook Pro. All I needed to prove I was a student was my college acceptance letter. I have multiple of those from all the colleges I applied too, so I'm not sure how that verifies me as a student, but that's all that was required.

Did you use an e-mail address through your school?

No, i signed in using my itunes account (@gmail.com) and it took the payment straight from my card assigned to that account.

I have my works (i work in a school) ID scanned in and ready to upload/send but it wasn't requested at any point of the checkout process.

They have also taken the payment.

I would give them a ring just to make sure.

When I ordered from the educational site (in the UK), one of the sales guys said he would e-mail me so I could send him proof (i.e. a scan) of me being a student. He didn't send that to me so I had to chase them up.

So I definitely suggest ringing up and just finding out, who you send the proof off to and what not.

I've just checked my e-mail and i've got the "Your Apple Order Has Been Shipped" confirmation... further inspection mentions UPS and tracking numbers also that it should arrive on or before 27/10/09 between 9am and 5pm so hopefully it will turn up tomorrow

I wonder why they haven't asked for proof of my educational status, maybe the agent dealing with my order didn't care? lol! Either way i'm guessing since it's been handed over to UPS i need not bother phoning them.

Ps. those shipping times mentioned above are pathetic for a company like Apple.

Quick question, how long does it take for apple to take the payment?

When i placed the order i checked my bank and i could see that apple had took the payment almost instantly.

I received the iMac on Tuesday and when i checked my bank today they still haven't taken the payment.

I also bought the iMac using educational discount store but wasn't asked to prove it at any stage of the buying process.. and shipping only took 1 day.

Has anyone ordered off the education store and not had payment taken straight away?

Note, i paid using my iTunes account, when i went to buy it i entered my e-mail address and it automatically recognised that account and my card assigned to it. I was only required to entered my 3 digit security code from the back of the card. Up-on completion i checked my bank account and the full amount had been deducted from my full balance.. available balance and account balance was less of the imac cost. But i've checked it today it looks like the payment has not been sent or it has been returned, there is no record of it on my invoice, and yes, the funds where and are available.

When It looked like that took the payment instantly that was them kinda checking the funds are there, That money then should be reserved on your account so that its not accessible. You might see the money but it shouldn't be showing as available funds.

very strange, it's definitely accessible i've asked my bank.

It's still there now, 4 days after ordering.

  • 2 weeks later...

yeah, after nearly 2 weeks.

What would of happened if i decided to empty my bank account? they could of tried to take the payment, failed.. and i'd have still had a Mac.

Surely this opens them up to a high risk of fraud?

What's the worst they can do? request payment, you ignore them.. you will eventually get letter off some debt recovery agency

    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
