2 empty folders with random names in c:\

Recommended Posts

Yeah, you should be able to delete them. I've always assumed they were randomly created while installing certain windows updates, service packs, etc. Isn't related to MSE, I've for sure seen those types of folders on all sorts of XP/Vista machines that don't have MSE installed.

ive never had any problems from deleting them.

I think they are left over temp folders from updates/service packs.

Yes, they are reminants of failed or interrupted updates (eg power cut half way through updating). They can be safely deleted.

Is there some reason 8 people need to say the same thing on this forum?

And your problem with it is?

they think it makes them look smarter but it just shows they can't read past the first post....

You may like to have just one persons opinion on something, but I'm fairly sure most would like a few more.

I am also getting these numbered folders on my c: drive. I had one a few days ago and deleted it. Yesterday two more showed up.

It has to be something Windows is doing, since we seem to be getting it at around the same time. This is the first time these type of folders have show up for me.

I'm on Vista x64 Ultimate and have MSE installed. I thought MSE might be the program that creates them, but some people get it without having MSE installed.

Nothing odd has happened after deleting them, so I assume its same to do so.

Any installations (like updates). This folders usually disappear after install/reboot.
