November 2009 Desktop Thread

When you post your desktop, can you take 5 seconds to also include a link to your desktop wallpaper, and spend another 10 seconds listing any mods (preferably with links) to where you can download them?

I love seeing the desktops, but it gets annoying as hell seeing every 2nd post asking 'link to wallpaper?'...

Of course, you are right. However, I think people are not going to do it. Why? It is simple psychology: we want to be asked for wallpapers. Because we like to know that somebody else like what we like: our wallpaper, desktop etc. So, your suggestion could work if only we have two things added to the forum:

- some sort of button titled "I like this wallpaper",

- simple counter "x people like this wallpaper".

Such a simple feedback could be effective, I think. Maybe we should suggest to Neowin adding such a function to this part of forum?

(Btw: is it possible to add some function to only part of the forum? :) )

nice idea but i dont think it can be done to only part of a forum. Ive seen on other forums a 'thanks' link but thats it.

Either way, to me it just gets annoying seeing page after page of 'can i have that wallpaper'.. Doing what I suggested the wallpaper is there in the post itself, and the people wanting it can comment 'that is a excellent desktop or wallpaper, thanks for the link!'

I guess we will see what the mods come up with for posting rules for December. :)

I have a general request for people posting desktops.

When you post your desktop, can you take 5 seconds to also include a link to your desktop wallpaper, and spend another 10 seconds listing any mods (preferably with links) to where you can download them?

I suggest each poster from this point on do it in this format:

[desktop pic]

[link to wallpaper used]

[desciptions and links to any desktop mods used]

What do the mods think of that suggestion?

So what your suggesting is that people should read and follow the posting guidelines as seen on the first page??

Ridiculous, ok maybe not, I often wonder if anyone read them :p

* In the interests of keeping the thread on topic it is strongly urged that you format your posts in the following order:

Themes: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

Wallpaper: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

Icons: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

Programs: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

:p

now, mind posting the wallpaper, TinEye did nothing for me :(

As I said last night, I'm back to dual monitors finally, and quite happy about it, been tinkering with dual monitor wallpapers again.

    • My son is in Monaco right now, and I was checking his location in Apple's Find My app. I noticed that Prince Albert's Palace was blurred out on the satellite imagery in both Find My and Apple Maps. I checked Google Maps, and the palace wasn't blurred there. Does Apple have some kind of process where property owners can request that their homes be blurred on Apple Maps?
    • No, it was THAT ugly and I’d rather forget it completely existed.
    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
