Rumored Kameo 2 Killed To Make Room For Natal Projects

Microsoft owned developer Rare won't be returning to the world of Kameo any time soon, thanks to the studio's shift toward multiple Project Natal titles, according to unnamed sources cited by CVG. Microsoft is reported to have canceled a sequel.

CVG's source "close to the platform holder" says that sales of action-adventure eyesore Kameo: Elements of Power are largely to blame for the decision to stop development on a follow-up. According to NPD data, sales of the original Xbox 360 launch title totaled a little more than 300,000, less than half the sales of launch peer Perfect Dark Zero, so that decision may have been a wise one.

(On the bright side, Kameo: Elements of Power sales over the course of four years outperformed two other Rare titles, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.)

But it appears that Microsoft's first-party needs for Project Natal software is taking precedent. Rare is said to be hard at work on a handful of unannounced games for the controller, now under the watchful eye of Microsoft Game Studios creative director Peter Molyneux.

Meh, no biggie. Kameo was one of the first 360 games I got, and it was alright back then, but last time I went back to play it, I got bored of it pretty easily.

Doesn't bother me, but if they've been working on it for a while (which, given the original's launch, is likely) it seems like an odd choice to cancel.

I hope this FPS advancement they're making on Natal will be better than PD: 0, which was just mediocre. It'd be nice to get a true, darker sequel. I'm not sure how I'll like Natal for FPS games, too. I think I'd just prefer a regular controller (or mouse and keyboard).

Damm thats a shame, am i the only one who loved the origional Kameo?

I thaught it was very origional with all the creatures you could transform in to, hadnt played anything like that before.

I thought it was a very well made platformer. I always love a game that you can just stop for a few moments to enjoy the scenery. It's also a very colorful world, a nice contrast to many of the gray or brown shaded 3D games that you see these days.

Well, it really depends on if the game is aiming for fantasy or realism. :ermm:

It really was a great game. Plus kids love this game.

I compared it to kind of a sub par Banjo-Kazooie. Definitely a meh game at best but I played it most of the way through to give it an honest try.

Overall, there are far worse things that can be killed off.

Oh, well, that could be true, maybe it'll have some Natal tie in for those who wanna use that option as well. I dunno what they're working on though.

It'd be nice either way.

    • Nice, hope they *finally* fixed the issue with the NTFS driver where the system would completely brick during large file copies using the built in driver. It's been broken for years requiring me to use the older, slower, NTFS-3G FUSE driver.
    • Windows 11 KB5094126 BSODing, freezing, forcing BitLocker lockout, breaks OneDrive, and more by Sayan Sen Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 last week as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. While Microsoft has so far not acknowledged any major problems with the release, some users online are running into problems. These range from OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. The most common one seems to be happening with HP systems wherein affected users say they hit 0xc0430001 BSOD (blue screen of death) error code after the KB5094126 update. We wonder if this could be related to the recent bug we covered on HP devices wherein the ongoing Secure Boot certificate updates are leading to similar issues. While we are not certain, users affected by this issue likely need to ensure that the boot.stl file is included on the installation media (such as a USB installer or ISO), if the above-mentioned dynamic updates are deployed. If this file is missing, computers may fail to boot from the installation media and could display the error 0xc0430001. This STL file is used by Secure Boot to verify that the boot files are trusted, so it must match the same Windows version and system architecture. To ensure the file is included, Microsoft recommends using the Update WinPE script, which automatically updates the image and handles the required files. Alternatively, you can manually copy the boot.stl file from the Windows\Boot\EFI folder on a Windows device and place it in the matching folder on your installation media before deploying the updated image. Aside from blue screening some users also note their systems have been freezing following the update. This could be happening to Lenovo PCs specifically. In the case of the OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, a user figured out that there could be a conflict with UAC. He explained: "Okay, so I did some digging, and in our environment KB5094126 breaks OneDrive and Dropbox in Explorer. I went through all our GPOs and found out that the combination of disabling UAC and having my user being a local admin breaks OneDrive in Explorer. ... If I enable UAC again, then it works, even with KB5094126 still installed." Hopefully, Microsoft will look into these issues. • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
