Xbox 360 mouse and keyboard Spport

Recommended Posts

I've always wondered why Microsoft doesn't / wouldn't add simple support for a moues and a keyboard in the xbox 360 firmware. Seems like a no brainier to me. You could then capture 2 markets. The Casual gamer and some of the pc gamers who like a mouse and keyboard but don't need the hottest pc for the best graphics. I have an xbox 360 but I just don't see how an FPS is any fun at all without a mouse and keyboard. I know you can buy a 60+ XFPS adapter but the **** don't they include native support.

Why... the ones who love the gamepads say its WAY better than a mouse and keyboard. So to them, **** em!.

exactly! ... because i am one of the people who is MUCH better with a mouse+keyboard vs a analog stick at tracking things on screen. (it just feel much more natural and easier to me. where as a anaog stick i pretty much suck so bad to the point i can't enjoy a high percentage of shooter type games AT ALL on a console) but for those who say a controller is better then WHY could they say we have a 'unfair advantage'? lol

but i do agree with the OP... a QUALITY mouse+keyboard support is long overdue on a console as it would give us PC gamers that don't have money to burn a nice way to experience PC like gaming experience without paying a arm and a leg for PC hardware ;)

p.s. a perfect example for me is ... Mafia II (due out early 2010) as that game i want ALOT but my PC surely won't be able to run it mostly because of my lack of CPU power. so for me a mouse+keyboard support on a XBox360 would be a great alternative.

There be truth to those words!

Anyone remember when people proclaimed Halo was great on Xbox (Original) and the controls were better than a KB and mouse? I want some payback.

Warwagon Sony allowed games on the PS3 to support Keyboard/Mouse and currently Unreal Tournament 3 is the only one that supports it. Not even Red Alert 3 was given KB/M support.

Console devs just don't seem to care about supporting kb/m, I mean Red Alert 3 was just calling for it, and no. The lowest common denominator is always going to have to be catered for, which is the gamepad.

Wah wah, sounds like somebody needs to practice with a controller! ;)

But yeah, I think they should at least allow mouse+kb as an option that devs can implement, kind of like UT3 on the PS3. Although I'd wager that your average console gamer wouldn't use such a feature, and that's why it's not a high priority.

I recently forced my Pro-Console friend to play Half-Life 2. I gifted him a spare copy.

He moaned at first, and he was absolutely USELESS at it, but I told him to stick at it. I went home, logged on steam.

And lo and behold, he was still playing it. And he messaged me saying using a kb/mouse is better than he thought!

Hopefully he will put down his 360 for a while and play some PC games with me. xD

I think MS is just making sure their console remains a living room entertainment device and not a micro PC. As much as I liked the M/K support on UT3 PS3 I don't think it does any good for Sony.

True but whats wrong with giving people a choice.

    • As much as I love owning my own hardware, it's hard to argue with the value. I'm not a huge gamer, I'd actually be interested in a cheaper plan with limited monthly hours, or even a pay-by-the-hour plan.
    • Well, they (LibreOffice/The Document Foundation) are bitchy and whiny, yes, but they're right, at least this time. It doesn't make sense to market something as "free and open source to thwart dependency on foreign companies' software" but at the same time, using the format of said companies (Microsoft) by default. That way, you are changing nothing, essentially, you're just using another UI. I'm not saying they should drop other formats altogether, but they shouldn't default to the thing they're trying to run away from in the first place. If you're gonna do something, just go all the way in, don't stop in the middle, IMO.

    • I'm surprised they haven't found a way to fix that. As much as I don't like software wasting memory, a file manager is the kind of thing that makes sense to keep running in active memory for super-fast recall. I suspect that is why MS makes their File Explorer part of the main explorer.exe shell, so that it is guaranteed to always be running.
