Hi guys,

I havn't heard much on the news front about Google OS, I have searched and found endless sites calling about fakes etc. Do we have any news of a release date, beta release? something I can get my hands on?

AFAIR for now, theres only Google Chrome version with some changes that may be special Google OS browser ;p... Anyway, i dont see anything worth in this, ghost project - it would be just another adsense source of information, maybe linux based imo ;p.

my toughts are that this will be another lightweight linux distro, with some fancy google apps :p

It's Ubuntu with Google Apps preinstalled.

It's already announced to be Linux-based. The desktop will be custom-made thogh, so it won't be Ubuntu.

From the announcement:

Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.

And actually answering to the OP question, no, no announcement has been made, and builds are so far not public.

Right now no one knows much about it. Until we get an alpha or a beta or some news, it's all just speculation.
