Apple Officially Going to War Against Jailbreaking

Recommended Posts

People seem to be missing the point. When they say apple will lose customers.

What I have got from this thread is a lot of the people aren't even using the latest iPhone or iPod touch.

Apple doesn't gain any money from you after you buy the phone or iPod.

So what does Apple actually have to lose by stopping the jailbreak?

They have nothing what so ever to lose. As people with jail broken phones do not buy anything from the app store hardly.

As they can all get it free.

They aren't buying the latest hardware(3GS).

So Apple will lose nothing as the jail breakers will have already paid apple for the phone/ipod.

Different if apple was the service provider and they where getting X amount of money every month from you.

I use to jail break my phone so I could do the following:

Send MMS

Forward SMS

So I could use my Vodafone sim in it.

That was it. I've also had the iPhone 2G, 3G, I now use the 3GS. I stopped using the jail break along time ago as I joined O2.

If you think that you are severely misinformed

To me, this seems stupid.

How much money are they losing from people hacking their device?

If I could sell an over-priced device in the first place I'd be happy.

But then someone comes along and develops a reason (more motivation)

for people to buy it, and I didn't have to pay them? WOW, I'm all for it.

I don't pirate with my jailbroken ipod but I do install third-party apps like winterboard. If Apple officially supported theming and loosened up their iron grip on the devices just a little bit, then I'd have no reason to jailbreak.

I think the 'Root' and 'alpine' is set by installing openssh not by apple.

Besides, Jailbreaking is a serious business, If apple controlled it and changed the password it would be cracked within 5 mins again.

Nope it isn't alpine is actually the device's root password, SSH is just the mechanism by which the phone is opened up to intruders.

I have my iTouch jailbroken and I still buy apps from the app store occasionally, and the occasional track from iTunes, but even when jailbroken customisation on Android is so much easier, which really just strengthens my resolve never to buy an iPhone. I know Apple like to keep an iron gripped stranglehold on their products, but they need to open their eyes and realise that if they made their products more customisable, most people would probably not even bother jailbreaking. The iPhone's default look of icons on a black background is majourly boring

Not only that, but the little square icons too. Even 99% of custom themes seem to just stick to the little square icons, and I just don't get it. You can use normal icons too if you wish!! Almost all of the square icon themes look basically identical to me. There are a few exceptions, but really there isn't much creativity or difference in most of them.

    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
