Kubuntu slower than Ubuntu? 9.10 x64

Although I am new to the Linux scene, I have used both Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.10 x64 desktop. It feels like Kubuntu is slower, and a bit "clunkier" than Ubuntu. I love the look and feel of KDE over Gnome, but it seems lagging. Am I wrong on this? Is there something I can do about possibly updating video drivers that would help? I'm using the nvidia drivers that installed after first install.. "185" ah it seems nvidia has posted that 185.xx is latest video drivers for Linux... .. Am I alone with this?

Can you post your system specs?

I use both KDE and Gnome on my system, and I've never noticed any difference, in fact KDE seems to me even snappier at times. But I've tried them both on an older machine as well, and there Gnome flied compared to KDE.

I could be a bad burn. I've had the same thing happen to me but after I reburned the CD and reinstalled everything was snappy. If you do reburn the Cd and reinstall and it's still slow, it must be a driver. KDE is not normally slower than Gnome.

A bad burn could make a LiveCD slower than it should be. If the OS is installed to the hard disk then I would suggest a different problem.

Kubuntu runs great on my main machine, but on my Pentium 4 I see this clunkiness you speak of. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the low-end onboard vid card... even the mouse kind of glitches in and out whenever you move it. What are your specs?

KDE seems to have more glitz and flash, so I suppose it demands more from the GPU/CPU
