The_Decryptor Veteran Posted November 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 8, 2009 ...Both Windows and Mac have their pros and cons. Mac I think is more stable than Windows since there is no registry or DLLs to worry about. If you install an application on a Mac, to get rid of it all you have to do is drag it to the trash can and its gone. On Windows you have to uninstall it and if the uninstaller fails you are screwed with files all over the place. ... OS X has no registry, but every OS uses shared libraries (dylibs on OS X, dll's on Windows and .so files on Linux and such). And OS X apps can be as messy as Windows apps (like MS Office, it puts files all over the place) Personally I think they're all the same, no OS is easy to use unless you know how to use it (same way driving a car is easy, after you learn how to drive)
StandingInAlley
Initially it can be difficult but then you should have expected this. You just need to grab proper applications. Grab Betterzip - its like WinRar Jaikoz - Will fix everything for your music collection.
vraev
personally I was planning on getting mac book pro 17 for my next computer. However, now that I got windows 7, I don't feel any need to switch to apple anymore. I am seriously in love with windows 7. It has everything which I wanted...the style and glamour of osx with the functionality and the limitless applications available in the windows ecosystem. My next laptop is going to be a 17" quad core, 1GB video card, 8GB ram windows 7 laptop. lol!!
game_over
You do know that in terms of your browzing zip files, you can get a Quick Look plugin that will let you do it... I'll see if I can find it. yup, here it is... http://macitbetter.com/BetterZipQL-1.0 Thanks for this, i've been looking for something like this for along time.. To the original poster, i have felt your pain. I initially installed OSX86 because i wanted to use Logic Studio which isn't available on Windows. I was so excited to try it and felt really let down... anyway over time, i found myself using it more and more... infact my windows 7 partition was gathering a bunch of metaphorical dust... it's just so easy, everything just works.. when setting up windows it can literally take hours.. getting it how u like it and installing the millions of applications you need. With OSX i found myself needing less applictions, it comes with everything you need, running through the system config process takes a few minutes and your good to go.. So i took the plunge and bought the new iMac.. finally a decent spec'd system for a half decent price and i love it.. it's smooth, its quick and does everything i need with minimal effort... One thing i do hate is organization... creating and sorting folders is just plain annoying... i hate the way iTunes organises music and there doesn't seem to be any built in photo/video organisation, maybe i just haven't discovered it yet but i just don't like sorting stuff on my iMac.. the folders are ugly and need improving IMO. With Windows it's a breeze, its easy to create folders and transfer photo's, it creates nice thumbnails and it's a pleasure to browse.... but comparing that to what i love about the iMac wins hands down.. Chasethebase Reporter Posted November 10, 2009 Reporter Share Posted November 10, 2009 Nice... The ... leads me to believe you're being sarcastic. Why would you be? It's a great deal and there's no reason to turn it down to be honest. Yes it may not be completely on topic. But it is still slightly relevant. Or is it just a viewer?

still1
Yeah I spent ages playing with them in John Lewis and I love many, many things about it but actually owning one is very different to test driving one in store. I have installed Windows on it but that feels kind of stupid as I already have a great spec laptop running Windows 7 so the MBP would be returned. I have 14 days to think it over but I am thinking it will be going back as it just doesn't seem to tick all the boxes sadly. Windows, while not perfect, works how I want it to whereas OS X doesn't do some of the most basic things I want like the zip feature :( You should give your mac back........
