Windows 7 running the background WEI check whenever it wants

Recommended Posts

I thought it was mentioned during Windows 7's beta that the background Windows Experience Index check (which replaces the initial test done after a fresh install) runs only when the PC is idle. Yet after installing new Forceware drivers which occasionally trigger a need to refresh the score, I've caught the test coming on two or three times while gaming, and just now, where the DWM shut down without warning and started back up two minutes later.

What's up with this?

Clean install.

I had a look at its task in Task Scheduler and nothing seemed out of the ordinary:

- Scheduled weekly on Sunday at 1 AM (conveniently it's at this hour that I usually am in-game, not today though)

- Start the task if idle for 10 minutes

----Wait for idle for 1 hour

--Stop if computer ceases to be idle

Yep, I deleted the entry in Task Scheduler completely because it was driving me mad. I'm watching a 1080p movie - suddenly BAM this sh*t starts and everything goes down to a crawl. I play a game - suddenly I'm thrown out for no apparent reason, only to find the WinSAT bullsh*t in task manager. What is the point anyway? Not like I change my hardware every week.
