Celebrating Five Years of Firefox!

You say it?s your birthday?Well it?s our birthday too!

Five years ago today, Mozilla launched Firefox 1.0 with belief that, as the most significant social and technological development of our time, the Internet is a public resource that must remain open and accessible to all. Within the first four days of launch, more than 1 million people had downloaded a brand new browsing experience.

In just five years, that number has swelled to over 330 million users worldwide; almost a quarter of Internet users worldwide choose Firefox. Today, Firefox ships in more than 70 languages and offers users more than 7,000 add-ons to help customize their browsing experience.

From your desktop to your mobile device, Mozilla is committed to building an open and participatory Internet. We?ve come so far in the past five years and we?re incredibly excited about the next five. Been using it for years, but it has become so unstable recently that I've had to switch to Chrome. I have no idea why, no new add ons themes or anything, just kept crashing, especially on Facebook.

The first time I used Firefox was late-2005. I believe the version at that time was 1.5, assuming my memory is correct. I remember sticking with it and not looking back since then. I can't even remember the last time I used Internet Explorer, or any other browser, as my main browser.

And ironically enough, I'm writing this post from Opera 10. Kinda funny that I come across this thread while testing another browser for the first time in a long time. :p

I've used it since the .x beta days. What's interesting is that I started using it first on Linux, then I installed it on my University account (Win NT) because of the tabs. Never used another browser as much as I use Firefox. Firefox (Phoenix) never let me down. Congratulations!

pfft. foobar has been around since 2002 hasn't even reached version 1 yet. and it's far superior to WMP12 or itunes 9. :p

and i love firefox. can't see myself using another browser anytime soon. :D

I've used it since the beginning when it was still Phoenix. Only not too long ago, I switched to Opera when 9.5 came out.

Interestingly, I'm currently back again on Firefox 3.5.5, since Opera 10 has problems running properly with Qt 4.5.3 :pinch:

After I had to spend some time getting all the plug-ins installed, it's quite ok even.

Same here; been using Phoenix since 0.3, IIRC. But now Chrome is to Firefox what Phoenix used to be to IE.

I loved Firefox :happy: It was always an excellent browser and still is. Unfortunately, there are just many things in Chrome I now prefer :/ I look forward to seeing what Mozilla can do to improve Firefox with the next major releases :)
