Pablo2008jedi
I know I created another thread earlier, but just thought I would create anew one with the correct title :p Basically, my wife wants a xbox 360, we already have a PS3, but there are some games that she would like to play that are only available on the xbox. (yes I have a great wife :p ) Anyway, a new console with HD is basically the Elite (?199.99), some shops still have the 60GB (?159.99). Some places have pre-owned 20GB for ?109.99 with 12 months warranty and are manufacturer reconditioned. Linky Is pre-owned worth the risk? e.g. RRoD
SMELTN
IMO you have as much of a chance of getting a RRoD with a new one as you do an old one. Only thing would be with a new one you could probably get a Jasper unit, where as with the pre-owned you probably won't be getting one.
Pablo2008jedi
Can you explain further regarding Jasper? Sorry not followed the xbox development much.
Brad.
Jasper's basically one of (if not) the latest hardware revision of the console. Including 250mb onboard memory and some other features that we dont really need to know :p I have a jasper, it's quiet, cool and I haven't heard of many jasper units getting RRoD at all :)
JoeC
A little shameless advertising here, but if you decide to buy a used one, I'm selling a 360 that's the revision before the current one (someone can tell you what that is, I have no idea :p). Still has at least a month's warranty for any fault, plus another 2 years on top of that for RRoD. Thread's over in the NeoBay if you're interested :)

acnpt
Check out Argos, they had some cracking deals earlier today. Here and here(arcade version) Also looks like a couple of good deals on amazon too.
Hell-In-A-Handbasket
personally i wouldnt get a used one, cause then you run the chance of getting a unit that was modified and banned. then your SOL
majortom1981
Get a new one with the rrod the warranty would be worth it.
DigitalE
A new Jasper console is totally worth it. They're cooler, quieter, and a lot less likely to get the RRoD. My Jasper is almost completely silent when I run games off the hard drive.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted November 12, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted November 12, 2009 personally i wouldnt get a used one, cause then you run the chance of getting a unit that was modified and banned. then your SOL Pretty much this, the used console market for the 360 just became a minefield with MS banning between 600k-1million 360's as of late. Brian M. Veteran Posted November 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 12, 2009 Yeah, those game places really don't care about the condition of the console (i.e. when I traded in my old dying Pro, the I'd cracked the hard drive case open to fix the little push mechanism which kept getting stuck instead of sending it away - they didn't care about the broken warranty sticker at all). IMO - especially with the bundles you can get now - go for the new Elite.
SimplySchizo
definitely new. i recently temp fixed my old rrod 360 and turned it in for $100 store credit. im sure im not the only one to do this. you wouldnt want to bump into one of these. lol
Gotenks98
Never ever buy pre-owned especially consoles. I used to work for gamestop long time ago and I saw the worst of the worst. Practically ever refurb we sold came back within 1 week. Used systems came back most of the time as well end just end up becoming a refurb later on. Its just not worth it for the money you are spending. At least with a new system you have the piece of mind that you can get it replaced or fixed because you have the warranty info. Lastly the number 1 reason not to buy anything pre-owned is this. You dont know what the previous owners did to the console. I remember working at gamestop and a lady brought in a console to trade in that was infested with roaches. We made her leave the store and for her to never come back to that location ever again. It took us forever to get rid of the roaches she brought with her.
Treemonkeys
I wonder how many of those pre-owned consoles are from people who got it banned from XBL, or if they check for that.

If its from gamestop chances are they arent going to check. They usually just test it enough to see if the console powers on and maybe loads a disc. Thats about it. +John. Subscriber¹ Posted November 13, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted November 13, 2009 I'd always go new. Better warranty and you can't trust the companies that sell pre-owned to make sure that the console is legit etc.
voidpharoh
With the announcement of all the consoles that Microsoft banned, I expect the pre-owned market is going to be floooooded with banned consoles starting now. With the various bundles and deals that you can get on new consoles there's really no reason to not buy a new one. Unless you're willing to take the risk of getting a banned console, or a broken/malfunctioning one, just to save a little bit of cash.

chicken-royal
I'd definitely go with a new console, especially after the recent wave of banning Microsoft have gone of for modified consoles.
MrArifPatel
Im having the same issue, i can pick up a 360 with 2 years accidental damage cover for ?60, so even if the consoles banned i can just return it, should i get it?
SiCKX
Never buy a used 360. You're risking enough with it brand new. :p
