Why are X-Platform PS3 games always buggy on release?

Recommended Posts

Seriously, it's a pattern that repeats itself over and over and over again.

I'm starting to think when the next series of consoles comes out I might switch to the Microsoft one, since so many developers seem to put more effort in to their version (since its similar to PC) over the PS3.

becoze Sony restrains da tru powa of the cellll processor making it hardz to code so devs ..... ups I've stopped paying attention to that PR crap at that point :p but now seriously is not that bad, they catch up in time, PS3 SDK is inferior and not user friendly. All games are originally PC games*, then using an SDK ported to its platform.

* Edit: to clarify that point, all games are developed in the PC environment, even console exclusives begin as a .exe

To me, I've noticed that this seems to depend on the developer. It's no secret that the PS3 SDK is not at the same level as the 360's. So, using it to the same or even better potential will require more skill or patience, and not every software house devotes money to both. Latest example is Dragon Age: Origins. The PS3 version boasts better textures and color than the 360 version. Though, Bioware is owned by EA, which has dedicated PS3 development staff.

activision's ps3 mp servers are down now too. :hmmm:

Now that's a damn shame. No reason for it being down given? Did that many PS3 players get MW2?

It's hardly noticeable, if at all any more with any respectable dev.

What games exactly are you talking about?

Activisions servers have nothing to do with Sony, that's all part of the "console devs never ever ever ever learn how to have a successful smooth day 1 launch of just about any MP title".

@fourzerotwo: PS3 Status: Adding more servers to meet MP demand.

Yeah what a crock of ****, biggest game of the year and the developers still fail. I'm growing sick of large anticipated titles met with the "oh we didn't know it would sell well so only put 2 servers online for launch" BS.

Update: Robert Bowling has just tweeted an explanation of sorts for the mishap on PS3. Apparently, “The amount of players on MW2 PSN overwhelmed the PSN presence server which updates “what you’re doing” and is essential to parties.”

He also stated: “PS3 Status: Patch successful. Trophy Unlocks on PS3 now available in Single Player & Spec Ops. Adding more servers to meet MP demand.”

I expect PC owners to get a hold of this and lol hard @ how devs tell us dedicated servers are a stupid idea then **** all over their own launch of a game

It's not like there is NO PS3 owners. There is over 14 million PS3's sold worldwide and imagine if all of them bought MW2 and wanted to play it at the same time, which is not going to happen but let's say about 6 million did. They can crash the servers which set up the matchmaking and more will need to be added. This same thing happened to the X360 a couple years back with MW. This time they were more prepared for the X360 though.

Also, Activision/Infinity Ward how the **** can you screw up no trophy's being unlocked? Are your games not being tested for this ****?

Dude there's about 25~30 million PS3s now  IW should not of underestimated the launch, if anything they should have had more than enough servers on just in case.

Patch 1.02 was installed for me before starting MW2 and trophies are working fine.

I was never trying to imply that there weren't a lot of PS3 players. I prefer playing on mine over my 360, myself. And I'm aware of what happened with the first MW on the 360. My thing is, I thought they would have learned from that and anticipated this, especially with more people owning PS3s. It looks like they underestimated the demand on the Sony front.

EDIT: And wow, this has deviated a long way from the topic :p.

Well, the last I checked was 14M. :p That was more than a couple months back. :p Still my point stands.

Even, if it was installed, games should be taken through tests before they are released and catch these stuff. Which they didn't.

I know you weren't, I am just saying that people buy for the PS3 also. There are not a lot of PS3 and X360 owners. There are some, but not as much as just single console owners. That's Activision for you, what can you do?

I hadn't bought any cross platform games on the PS3 yet, so thank you for the warning!

yeah, Xbox 360 for multiplatform/exclusives and PS3 for exclusives, that's the way to go

    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
