+chorpeac MVC Posted November 12, 2009 MVC Share Posted November 12, 2009 So what is going on with the mobile version of Neowin? I remember a few posts before about a special version being developed for the mobileheads. Any status on that progress? +chorpeac MVC Posted November 12, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted November 12, 2009 A new mobile version will be coming with the next update. Hmmm....ok. More mystery then... :) http://mobile.neowin.net/index.phptheir is also a theme on the forums for mobile browsers, however you may have to change that yourself Yeah this is what I currently use. The screens I have seen of the "work in progress" are soooooooo much easier on the eyes. +chorpeac MVC Posted November 13, 2009 Author MVC Share Posted November 13, 2009 Yes, tried setting it to mobile, but did nothing. Oh well. OIC...well if you cannot view the mobile version, can you go to mobile.neowin.net to see the mobile? If that doesn't work, can you clear your cache/cookies on the device? TYT
I hate to step into someone else's topic, and if you'd rather me start my own, don't be hesitant to tell me so... Nonetheless, when I view the forums on my phone ( Moto Droid ) I have to manually switch the forum page to the mobile version each time I view a page. e.g., if I were to go to the main forum page, I have to set that page to mobile, then if I click a link in the forums to a sub-forum, I have to then switch that page to mobile. Then, if I were to go back to the main forum page again, I would then have to switch that page back to mobile. I thought the forum settings were stored locally, like in a cookie or such, but when I log into the forums with my phone the setup is the same as it is on my desktop. Could that be inhibiting me? Timan Veteran Posted November 30, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2009 Forum skin is stored in the db, so if you change it on your desktop, and login on a mobile device, it'l use the same skin. TYT
Bah, so if I want to see the mobile skin on my mobile device, I have to use it on my desktop also? Doesn't this kind of defeat the purpose of having a mobile skin? Timan Veteran Posted November 30, 2009 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2009 Its called limitations on crappy ipb2.x :p This will be fixed when we move to ipb3. You won't even be able to select the mobile skin unless your device is supported. It'll do all the work for you. (Same goes for the main page). deletedxyz
I would to give two thumbs up to the Neowin team for making a fantastic mobile page. It's so smooth and easy to navigate on my iPhone. I haven't come across any other site that comes close to the legibility and navigation of this site on small screens. tiagosilva29
I was searching for mobile-readiness assessment tools, found a couple of, and tested the current mobile website. Some results were LOLWUT, others were serious but what was interesting is that these validators failed to parse the website via its URI, because it was delivered as an WML page. Weird stuff.
