I'm also worried about bricking my Wii if I try to softmod it. How likely is it that you might brick it? Any help would be appreciated.

When I read about it last, the firmware has to be downloaded from nintendo then modified, the extra IOS files that are installed could be corrupt, you could brick it if you install any of the apps that interfere with the initial boot of the system.

You should back up your system first before trying anything, but I really dont think that this is the forum that you should be asking how to do it.

Personally, Ive modded machines a few times and never had any problem, however I also bought Wii's which had the most easy to manipulate firmware installed, so I never had to do anything too risky. You need to look at what firmware your machine has, which region, and then google how to softmod that firmware for a guide.

There are sites out there that can help, Google is all you need.

The hardest part about hacking your wii is the stress you feel that you might brick your wii.

www.wiihacks.com has tutorials and there are a few good youtube videos showing you how to do it.

I've got 4.2u version and had no difficulties other than worrying that I was gonna brick it...

also keep in ind that not every PC dvd player will read wii disks. There are only a selct few. Same with a usb hdd.

I found that out after the fact so what I do for now is use an 8gig usb flash drive to transfer the games from the wii. Then take the usb drive to the computer and transfer that to my computer and then burn the game. Couple extra steps and it takes longer but..what the hell...

Thanks.....I have 4.2u as well and I just don't want to brick it.

wiihacks.com has a really good guide for 4.2 users

well, if you are really uncomfortable doing that then you could always get a drivekey chip.

they cost about $50.00 and require no soldering. You do however have to dissasemble your wii but they have nice pictures showing you how to do it..

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
