Read: Trolling

For a long time now, there has been a problem with people coming into the Mac Section to basically do hit and run comments about how idiotic and stupid macs are, and this has lead to entire topics becoming flamewars and ending up locked. From now on, if you come into the mac section and make a comment that has nothing to do with the topic at hand and is just a flame, you will be immediately receiving a warning. If you have already had 2 warnings about trolling in here you will be set to restricted for 3 days.

For regular members of the mac section it would help a lot if you could label your topics consistantly to show they are mac related threads to cut down on confusion.

i often wonder why so many people have to be so immature :hmmm:

i know enough about macs to know how to use them, but i couldn't by any means tweak them like i can tweak windows. i don't really like macs that much either, but i don't go around bashing people who use them. i think it is just a difference of opinion. some people like the way xp works, some like the way windows 2000 works, some like the way linux works, some like the way macs work. it doesn't mean anyone's opinion is less justified.

,Jun 9 2003, 23:46] talking about trolling, just closed a trolling thread in this forum, damn!!!

hey i didnt realize you were a mod...must be new. congrats

Maybe a description of the difference between flaming and posting valid criticism is in order.

"Macs have an interface so poor that only retards would use them"

vs

"The finder in OS X has serious problems with SMB connections, something explorer does not."

most people should know the difference.

and thank you WK!

Just to clarify, I see nothing wrong with contention as long as there is factual basis behind it, it's not pc users we are trying to keep out of the mac forum, just people that come in here to start chaos and disorder.

Exactly ... Mac users alike can be the same, but many of "us" take an interest in things like Longhorn, and it'd be wrong to deny those with an interest, to "debate" and possibly give another angle to the story, merely because of their Computer.

it's a great idea to try and cut down the Flaming ... i think many issues reside from the Mac posts coming out on the main page, people clicking them, and then things move from one extreme to the next. Personally whoever is doing such a thing, needs to be aware of not only the thread they are reading, but also where this thread is placed, before making a response. it would be great if there were a way, to distinguish this forum in particular from others, Graphically would be best .. maybe having an alternative colour to the theme or something .. Something that can instantly tell the viewer, you are in the Mac forum!

    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?
