Not quite sure what you meant, but yeah, volume licensing means you don't have to activate it - but if you go over the amount of computers allowed per license (say, you purchase a license for 20 computers and you install on 25), windows update will notice this eventually, and will invalidate the key. Volume licensing is usually XP Pro - afaik - meant for a domain environment.
