I shall be installing some new cat5 cable and grid outlets in 2 of the rooms I need a connection for a pc and a phone which connects using j11.

My phone is VoIP connected to a Linksys pap2 is it possible to use the same cat5 cable to carry both as I should then even have 1 pair left over. Is there any kind of standard to follow or just use 568B and then use one of the other unused pairs ?

run 2 lines. keep the cat5 dedicated to pc or phone traffic. don't split up the pairs. I don't know what would happen with voice and computer traffic, but if you were to split the cat 5 between 2 computers (2 pair to 1, and 2 pair to the other) you would never see anything above 10Mb/s. It isn't that hard to run an extra cable being that you are running 1 now, esp if you have 2 boxes of cable.
