PS3 for gaming, much cheaper than PC gaming.

PS3 also offers media functions, and has an internet browser.

You can just build a cheap PC for computer tasks.

I've got an xbox 360, and just use a cheap selfbuild PC ?160ish or my Samsung nc10 netbook for computer tasks - internet/programming/photoshop etc.

I meant Im buying a ****LOAD of games and things like a bluetooth and keyboard for the ps3

Fair enough.

Are you big on online gaming? And if so do a lot of your friends play online on the PC or PS3? Perhaps that can sway your decision one way or the other...

3 friends = Ps3 - 1 friend = PC but that friend probably wont even play multiplayer with me.....

for no more than really $500 you can get a top of the line PC you build yourself. It would be able to run everything out and that comes out for a long time as well. PC parts are cheap, and building a decent quad core computer is not as expensive as most think. A PC can allow you access to more stuff if you use it properly/improperly lol. Blu Ray drives are cheap as well for computers now too.

Considering the Slim is newly out and the price point of $299 clearly isn't going anywhere till fall next year at the earliest, I don't see what you mean by "PS3 needs upgrading".

As I said if you choose PS3, buy it on black friday, you'll get it for $299 with some free games/movies. I can't really offer any other advice, you want something solely for gaming, best to dive into some review sites and check out the highest scoring PS3 games and see if they tickle your fancy. Do the same with the latest PC releases. When you decide your next step I'll try chip in with some PC build advice, or where to/what to buy for the PS3 first.

Have a look at the 2010 release schedule for both platforms as well.

I own everything this generation and my consoles get far more use than my PC, however every now and then something comes along that's tailored for the PC that sucks up my time (Football Manager/World of Warcraft/Dragon Age - You can get this on consoles, but it's better on PC). Consoles have kind of taken over as the casual FPS masterclass, however the PC still has unique approaches to certain types of FPS games consoles can't match - Arma 2/Valve Games (yes I know they're on 360, and some on PS3, but all Valve games play better SP&MP on PC).

Check out newegg.com for prices... But I have put together great computers for friends for just at $500. For a little more you can get much better things for the pc.

4gb ram - $99 at most

1terabyte hd - 99$ roughly depending on brand name and certain specs

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115214 - Quad i-7 , I chose that as it is low price for good power, you could save a good $150 if you didn't go i-7, but that wouldnt really future proof it too much. - $289

Motherboard will be around $200 give or take $50.

Case you could go anywhere from $40-whatever lol

Power supply roughly $100 give or take a little depending on brand and specs.

Video Card would be $150+ depending on what you really wanted.

So ya, it has gone up with the i-7's since I last built a pc for some one. You could make it cheaper by not using the i-7 and still have great speed for a long while, but it is hard to tell down the line how much it may be needed. But once you get your pc built, everything else for it is normally cheap lol.

I already have a motherboard I could use but the thing is my friend already showed me what I should buy for the perfect pc ( for me) Its costume build and costs 900 dollars but the thing is Im just looking for gaming and I think you get more for your Money with the ps3

I suggest the PS3 for gaming, most games are developed for all the major consoles in addition to the PC. The beauty of the PS3 is it's designed for gaming, then throw in the addition for Blu-Ray and the PlayStation Store and you've got yourself a powerful gaming and media machine.

The problem I see with high end gaming machines is that the more software that is installed then the system becomes diluted, resulting in poor performance over time. Get the PS3 and your games.

    • I think you meant the "ntfs3" driver, but yes there have been a lot of fixes for it in this release and previous releases, not 100% sure if the issue you mentioned is fixed though. In any case, the new "ntfs" driver in 7.1 doesn't have that issue (at least, no reports of such have come thru), but your kernel needs to explicitly enable support for the new driver first (like how CachyOS kernel has it), and you need to edit your mount points in /etc/fstab to use "ntfs" instead of the other drivers.
    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
    • Watch Louis Rossmann's recent experience on YouTube about trying to get a warranty replacement from Samsung. It's crazy.
    • That is the thing, how many of these people don't realise they are using AI? If they use Google Search they have no choice but to use AI. So yes, maybe half of American adults do use and I expect a lot of Uk adults do to, but I bet most of them don't realise it. Myself, i avoid the rubbish.
    • They use FREE AI. They aren't paying for this meme-generating slopware...
