Missing song!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Ok, I realize how crazy this is going to sound, but bear with me.

A couple of weeks ago I downloaded a song from iTunes "What It Is" by Gorilla Zoe, ft Rick Ross.

I swear it had the lyrics "but I'm living in a mansion and I'm riding in a lambo" and that whole verse.

Now today I put the song on, and it ended, and I remember distinctly it didn't have those lyrics. My friend was like w.t.f and so we listened to it an additional three to four times, and we've confirmed, it doesn't have those lyrics.

I remember, specifically, a few weeks ago remembering how this version of the song (which I didn't transfer from my old computer) was slightly different from the original, but that it still had that one verse. So it's a bit bizarre that today it Doesn't!

To get even weirder, I searched the song on iTunes UK (which is the ONLY store I can buy from, hence a couple of weeks ago, and I've checked the invoice, I purchased it from there) and it NO LONGER APPEARS! It's just, gone. Like I've tried multiple searches, and it doesn't appear.

So basically my question is whether or not purchased music from iTunes can somehow be updated without you knowing? I recently updated iTunes, and haven't played the song since the update, until now.

Another thing, I searched the lyrics on the web, and those lyrics are definitely in there. It seems like somehow the version of my song has changed without me actually knowing...

Is this even possible?

Thanks,

Medking

(I know this sounds absurd, but I'm really kind p****ed about it, cus it's a good song)

What the heck, lol. Recently my iTunes library has been renaming itself. Sometimes I'll get that "genius" thing (submitting info to apple...), then all of a sudden most of my songs are incorrectly named, and ones with long file names are cut off.

Haven't experienced any actual updates in the songs themselves, though...

But do you think it's possible that the song updated?

EDIT: By the way, I just booted up my old PC, where the other "What It Is" was located, and transferred it.

It would appear that my old "What It Is" has the verse I was looking for... So it actually seems that there are two versions of the song? One that was released to the public, and one that was scrapped?

It's bizarre! But I swear that the one I bought from iTunes HAD that verse. Which is what's weirding me out a bit.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
