Gom Player contains Keylogger?

Question

Good Morning,

So I have had Gom player for a long time now, but come to work this morning and my work Antivirus was up on the screen showing me that it had detected a keylogger in the uninstaller for Gom Player..

Now my question is, are we looking at a false alarm here or is this the real deal? I downloaded Gom Player from the Gom website a few months ago, haven't updated it in probably a month or 2. Haven't even ran it in over a month. So what would have caused it to pop up now?

Have to agree with Ci7 as it could be a false positive. The only way to tell is to download a fresh copy from the official website again and see if you get the same alert. If you do, you'll probably want to report it to the Gom Player team.

I got the same thing from my GOM player during my Symantec scan and got here after a quick Google search. I'm thinking either we both ran into the same problem or it's a minor screw up on Symantec's end. Either way GOM is off my computer to be safe but maybe a rise in Symantec users with this will start to show up...

Just a little update. Maybe you should run another full scan, might just be me but after quarantining GOM uninstall, then deleting it and scanning again I found another spyware.keylogger in my restore files that wasn't there earlier... Not sure if it's related but it wasn't there when it found the GOM one...

I ran into the same thing this morning. Google search brought me here...

I'm using Symantec, and I downloaded GOMplayer several months ago from the official site (or a link at the site). I'm assuming this is a false hit, but like many, I will uninstall until I hear/see some confirmation that it's not an accurate hit.

Good to see we are all having the same issue, which tells me more and more its a false positive that needs to be reported to GOM/Symantec.

Glad you found us on Google search to find your answers and see you aren't the only one with the problems

All anti-virus's screw up occasionally just be thankful its not deleting system files without your permission. When any Anti-virus shows a change from the last scan, its usually because during the last definitions update it put in something wrong. After many people complain to them, they will fix it in the next update or two. When this happens to me I usually take it with a grain of salt and do a little scanning with other apps like Asquared free or use one of the many online scanners or file upload sites where they scan your uploaded files for you. Once several other apps say its OK you can often tell your anti-virus to ignore it from that point on and forget about waiting for an update.

AVG is well known for screwing its customers with the wrong definitions. They even once ruined everyones PC and forced reinstalls cause they deleted system files. Only the smart ones who told it to ignore the file instead of sheepishly following the false positive escaped harm.

Agreed it is most likely a FP, a lot of AV people use the same sources for their updates, which causes this issue. GOM player is by far the best player out there, and I am sure their forums would be rife with complaints if there was an issue such as this.

    • Intel Nova Lake alleged performance shows massive improvement, could answer AMD 3D V-cache by Sayan Sen Intel’s next-generation Nova Lake-S desktop CPUs are shaping up to be a major overhaul if a recently leaked slide is to be believed. According to the leak, which appears to be a cutout portion of Intel's presentation slide, the top-end Core Ultra 9 SKU could deliver roughly 1.1x or 10 percent better single-threaded (ST) performance and a 1.6x or 60 percent boost in multi-threaded (MT) workloads over Arrow Lake-S. Assuming this is true, in order to achieve this big MT jump, core counts are expected to go significantly up compared to the current gen (Arrow Lake-S). A previous report outlines up to 52 total cores on the flagship part, 16 performance “P-cores,” 32 efficiency “E-cores,” and four ultra-low-power “LP-E” cores, yielding 52 threads in all (If you recall, Intel has dropped hyper-threading, its version of SMT or simultaneous multi-threading on the Lunar Lake architecture). There is no information regarding clock speed though, so we can't guess what kind of IPC (instructions per cycle) Nova Lake may be delivering. Nova Lake-S is also said to support DDR5-8000 memory by default and bring 32 PCIe 5.0 lanes plus 16 Gen 4 lanes for I/O, on a new socket,1954. Nova Lake aims to succeed Arrow Lake’s combo of Crestmont P-cores and Skymont E-cores with new microarchitecture, codenamed “Coyote Cove” and “Arctic Wolf,” respectively, along with the addition of LP-E (Low Power Island) cores that debuted on Meteor Lake. If the internal slide’s performance claims hold true, Intel could close the single-threaded gap against AMD’s Zen 6 Ryzen 9000 X3D parts and redefine desktop gaming leadership. For now, these performance numbers remain unverified rumors even though it sort of does look like the real thing (the font matches). Intel has yet to share any official Nova Lake-S benchmarks or architectural deep dives. Finally, Nova Lake is also rumored to debut a large LLC (last level cache) somewhat similar to AMD's 3D V-cache which helps in boosting gaming performance and other tasks. If you recall, Intel has been working on an L4 (level 4) cache for a while.
