Halo Reach Thread

It's an FPS game. It's not meant to be Jane Austen. They're meant to be big crash bang omg-he-chewed-his-own-face-off shootathons with good set-pieces. If you need "emotion" to shoot stuff in the face you probably should see a doctor.

The story is merely a MacGuffin - a reason to shoot stuff in the face. Who cares if the reason is the resurgence of an ancient race or because someone from the future stole your taco?

I can't think of any FPS which has a decent storyline except possibly Half-Life but even that rips off movies from the 50's and Orwell.

In case you weren't paying attention my original reply was to Boz.

Yea, Idk wtf is up with this. I'm missing two chapters so far. I've played them from their beginnings and nothing.

I think I know why, I saved and exited in. The middle of the mission, right after bravo. Then came back tonight and completed it, apparently you have to do it straight though

On another note, after completing the game on heroic, I don't die as much in multiplayer, and kill more..........

I managed to get thru one I started yesterday. I saved out, but selected Resume solo Campaign and the achievement unlocked when I was done... /shrugs

And none of them were praised for their story.

I can't believe what I'm hearing, no wonder developers don't bother with good stories or story telling any more, people sucks up everything like a Shamwow

Can you really talk when the game you are looking forward to is Black Ops?

aka the annual killing room **** heap title.

Anywho, I think .Kick, Brad & I will be playing co-op tonight on Legendary. We need 1 more to join if anyone is interested.

Loving my Legendary edition (Y)

Of course I can, can you really talk about Call of Duty when you bought the legendary edition of Halo? Ha ha - zOMG toys and badges.

Halo aka. the game that never evolves, stale piece of pap that lost its fun 4 years ago.

And Black Ops with an RC Car is any better? Please :p

And no matter what you say, Halo fanboy or not, Bungie > Treyarch.

It's better than statues but I didn't buy it, you did - There's the difference :p

And Bungie lost all their credibility as a developer in my book when they rehashed the game AGAIN - They are no better than old-IW or Treyarch now, they will fit right in to the Activision mantra.

I unlocked all achievements for levels where I did that (saved and resumed).

slane my man, you know it's not easy on legendary, quit pretending otherwise, it's too hard for me on heroic. i know you have some mad skills and a lot of patience for tough and annoying games, but still...calling it easy is a stretch.

and to those comparing this to Halo 3 and ODST...fair comparison for obvious reasons but i disagree. Halo 3 was epic start to finish, and the arrangement of action was more like a running battle. ODST was superb, it was so claustrophobic and dense, plus most of the engagements felt quite random, so it was a totally different feel - except of course for the final battle, which was Galaga with covenant in it (hated that last battle).

As for Reach, it's nothing but a string of monster closets interspersed with walking or driving. Thankfully there's no infinite spawning.

And when i wrote there was nothing redeeming about it, i actually forgot about the Saber section, which was great - in fact the best part of the game, good enough for its own release. it was fun but too short. otherwise Reach is crap. That is all.

So what's the definition of "not easy" then, if it isn't dying a million times and having to snail your way through everywhere?

I quit saturday night out of frustration. At the pillar of autumn level while the dude with the scratched faceplate was shooting the mass driver.... That part miffed me off to no end, but I beat JUST THAT PART after an hour or 2 of tries,, love the AI, they were smarter then the average AI, had to be on your game to beat it on heroic or above,,, luckily I completed heroic

On the other halo games, you could just run and shoot and clear everything no issues, here you stick your head out, your getting shot, you don't stick your head out and they will come behind you or somewhere and beat you and shoot you. Normally I could do almost a clip at their head to bust their shields then melée,,, i tried that, and got meleed myself as the melee i did, they just shrugged off and laughed at me, then hit me and i died

Solo legendary complete. Really easy. Really disappointing.

I completed it on Legendary the other day, in co-op. Not easy. Very frustrating at parts. A lot of dying which definitely makes it more difficult.

I'm a smart player, and I don't suck.

I have no idea if you're "super ****ing good", but if you are to the point of the campaign on Legendary being "stupid easy", then I suppose you're one of the very, very few. Which makes you special. Congratulations.

That said, it wasn't that bad, either. At least, not with two of us once we got used to it after the second or third mission. It was difficult, but not impossible to complete in a couple of mildly frustrating evenings. I imagine it'd have been easier if we tried to play through on an easier setting, first.

Trying to do that Elite assassination achievement

I've done it TWICE without getting it

I'm making sure Sprint is off and I'm landing straight on its back with the assassination animation...nothing

Are you 100% positive you're not actually landing on the ground first then hopping on the Elite? Rewatch your video in theater and pull off the camera so you can move it around to see. I had the same "issue" where I thought I was landing on the elite however rewatching showed I was actually hitting ground first then getting the elite.

This achievement really is a pain in the ass but I finally went and tried for it again last night (after ignoring it for a few days) and after 41 deaths, I got it :p.

    • Well, it's good to know that they have found a workaround to a problem that they helped create, I guess...
    • Meta is reusing old DDR4 RAM in its servers instead of buying new hardware by Ivan Jenic Image: Meta The global hardware shortage isn’t exactly news, as the entire world has been struggling with rising component prices for quite some time now. And while big companies certainly aren’t as affected as the average consumer, even they aren’t opposed to the idea of saving a few (million) bucks. Meta appears to have found a way to spend less on new hardware while also putting its outdated infrastructure to use, essentially killing two birds with one stone. The company has built a custom chip that lets it reuse memory from retired servers rather than buying new hardware. The chip is called Vistara and allows for connecting old DDR4 RAM from obsolete servers into new servers that rely on DDR5. The problem Vistara solves goes back to a basic mismatch in how long hardware lasts. Meta replaces its servers every three to five years, but the memory modules inside them are good for seven to ten. When a server gets decommissioned, perfectly usable DDR4 RAM goes with it. Meta is presenting the new method at today’s ISCA symposium, but The Register has got hold of a paper that explains how Vistara works. It's a custom ASIC that bridges DDR4 memory to newer processors via aCXL 2.0/1.1 interface over PCIe Gen5 x16. Meta pulls DDR4 sticks from old machines and installs them in dedicated units it calls MemServers, each of which pairs 768GB of DDR5 with 256GB of recovered DDR4. The operating system sees the DDR4 as an additional memory node and draws from it when the primary DDR5 is running low. Off-the-shelf CXL hardware couldn't do this, so Meta built its own. Existing interfaces bundle their own memory with the controller, which makes reusing old RAM sticks impossible. But Vistara separates the controller from the memory entirely, so Meta can plug in whatever DDR4 sticks it has on hand. Meta plans to deploy the new architecture in hyperscale infrastructure with millions of servers, which should mean that Meta’s AI datacenters will now be more efficient. The company is investing heavily in AI infrastructure, especially with its new AI model, Muse Spark, now widely available. All of this doesn't mean that Meta will exclusively rely on "recycled" RAM, but the company is still looking at considerable savings at scale.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
