I'll just go to see family instead, let them host. The lounge should be ready for around New Year. But I don't have any furniture for the TV or bookcases or anything yet. For the lounge I've still got to * to replace the skirting boards and undercoat them * remove some plug sockets that are superfluous * fix some plug sockets that are dead * tidy up any little holes or rough patches in the plaster / walls * white wash the ceiling twice on the new plaster * paint the ceiling properly * drill holes ready for front and surround speaker brackets * paint the walls * gloss the wood-work and radiators * buy a dining room table * buy TV units * Install my gadgets * and hopefully not a single cable in sight. All either chased in the wall or ceiling At the end I will have * 47 inch LG 47SL8000 LCD * HTPC with Bluray drive and 1TB hard-disk, homebuild from ebuyer * FoxSat HD dual tuner 320gb drive * Sony HT-SS360 surround I really can't wait to get this stuff out of the box, the TV is just sat there in the kitchen doing nothing :s Madness Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'll do a full before and after soon. :) Well done mate...thats a drastic improvement so far...i've been in a similar situation myself and its tough to start off with but well worth it in the end.. I could never have afforded my house if it had been all nicely done for buying or would have to buy a smaller house...i knew buying it that it would be all ripped out etc...i have 3 bedrooms which is great but its amazing how quickly you furnish it and aquire generic stuff. I even have a driveway thanks to buying a house that needed some work doing to it...every room had to be ripped out so not for the faint hearted but at least i got a say in what went where etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

All the little bits add up and it seems like I've just let the dust settle from one job, think I've finished and then realise I've got a whole other job to do. Even changing the plug sockets out for new ones presents a big job. I realise the plaster is loose or the wiring is poorly done, and I have to take a day repairing it. I do wish I had a drive way though. It's an old terrace with a tiny front "garden". Anyway.... A small update, just finished off a few little bits. Bathroom - before - tiled but messy Bathroom - After - repainted and refinished the window Office - before we moved in Office - just getting started - carpet removed Office - Halfway done, stripping old wallpaper Office - After - painted, carpeted and wood glossed Bedroom - before we moved in Bedroom - halfway - gut the place Bedroom - Finished - repainted, fitted new wardrobes, new curtains and bed. I know it would be a hard and lengthy task, but it would be worth it since getting it done by contractors and what not is around $20,000 or I guess It might be better to make a pool that is set in the ground a foot or so. oh my friend also helps his grandpa make pools. and when I say pools I mean pools costing 200,000 and more or would it be possible to get an above ground pool kit, but put it in ground? Sand any gloss off the top few layers, then use a two part hydrogen peroxide bleach. Neutralize with vinegar and clean off with water. Then allow the furniture the to dry, then take a fine grit piece of sandpaper and go over the furniture once more, then allow it to sit another day, and you can stain the wood another color. Its a commonly spread lie that light airy space and light colours make rooms feel bigger. The biggest change to making a room feel bigger is laying it out correctly... because it does make is bigger in the sense you have more usable space. also too many people see rooms in isolation, you can make a living room or kitchen seem bigger by how you decorate the hallway, and how you pass from one room to another. Sometimes deliberately small quirky rooms and corridors next to simple bigger lviings rooms that are used more often can make them feel even bigger. If you aren't planning on using your chimney you should block it up with some insulation (though make sure you can remove if later if needed.
