MTS files from my Canon HG21

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a Canon HG21 camera. To say the least I have been less than impressed with the video quality, perhaps its because I know nothing of how to take proper videos. So I accept that I suck... but once I take a video and copy it to my computer I am left with a huge *.mts file. Unfortunately these files are a pain in the ass because of their size so I want to convert them to a codec that is high quality but small in the file size. I have the profesional version of divx 7. The file converter is ok but what ends up happening is the file is converted to 720p rather than keeping the 1080p quality that the original file is in and sometimes there is no freakin sound!

Anyway, I was hoping someone could tell me the very best software for converting .mts files into other codecs and which codecs and settings for conversion are best? I understand that "best" is subjective but I am hoping to get a lot of responses so I can choose the best response for my needs. Thanks in advance.

megui and x264 with aac audio are your best options, dgavcdec will demux the audio to a .ac3 file, you can mux this to your already created divx7 file or you could encode it to a smaller aac file and then mux that. I'm fairly sure divx7 converter lets you encode to 1080p, its probably in the advanced options.

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
