Minifig
Okay, so I netflixed it, but, hey, it's my first Bluray. (Reminder: I just got a PS3 for Christmas.. so yeah.) I figured what a better thing to watch than that of Planet Earth with David Attenburough (instead of Sigorney Weaver!) for a first Bluray. Anyone think I made a good decision? :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/862804-achievement-unlocked-obtained-first-blu-ray/ Share on other sites

REM2000
Dark Knight is an excellent Bluray to showcase it's capabilities. My First BR was Casino Royale. Anyone think I made a good decision? :) I have been putting off Bluray. But I got a PS3 last year. I think you've done well with Planet Earth there. I think that would be a good first Bluray, and Blue Planet as well. The only thing stopping me at the moment is the size of my telly! Actually that is a lie of sorts. As I've never tried a Bluray disc on it (only DVDs), I can't know if Bluray will make a noticeable difference. Still, I have it in my head that I'll switch to Bluray when I get a screen larger than 30". Sorry to say this mate, but even on a 26" screen, the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray is like the difference between night and day. Saying your screen is too small is no valid excuse :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/862804-achievement-unlocked-obtained-first-blu-ray/#findComment-592074808 Share on other sites
ShamRocker1
So should I go Bluray (I need a serious upgrade) or stick with DVD? Personally I can only tell the difference on high end equipment that i've witnessed. soniqstylz
Being that it's a blu-ray, shouldn't it be "Trophy Unlocked"? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/862804-achievement-unlocked-obtained-first-blu-ray/#findComment-592074874 Share on other sites
cloaked
Star Trek(2009) is an excellent bluray with very excellent video quality. If you want to be wow'd, you want to watch this. Especially if you have 5.1/7.1 and never seen this. Jimmy0
My first bluray was Casino Royal, got it for free as I was one of the first x amount of people to sign up to the PSN when the PS3 first got released. (Well technically I did it through my brothers console, but still got myself the bluray :p) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/862804-achievement-unlocked-obtained-first-blu-ray/#findComment-592076906 Share on other sites

Anyone think I made a good decision? :) Great choice, I got that on HD-DVD (!) and it's absolute gem! you did well (I don't see the point of buying it again on Blu-Ray when I already have a HD version of it) Being that it's a blu-ray, shouldn't it be "Trophy Unlocked"? True, but "Achievement Unlocked" has a better ring to it don't you think? As long as your tv is capable of 1080p or even 720p you'll notice the difference. I cant watch DVDs anymore, they just look horrid. A little over the top isn't it? I mean if you still own a SDTV (like myself) then DVDs looks perfectly fine and even on a HDTV, Blu-Ray players like the PS3 do a pretty decent job at upscaling DVDs to HD resolutions. Granted they don't have the detail of proper HD movies but they are hardly horrid and quite watchable :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/862804-achievement-unlocked-obtained-first-blu-ray/#findComment-592076932 Share on other sites
AbandonedTrolley
I 'think' my first was Sweeny Todd, can't really remember now. Slowly replacing my DVD collection though (up to about 50 now). Dark_ph0enix
That's definitely a great first pick - I brought two copies of Planet Earth just before Christmas - one copy for a relative, as a Christmas Present, and one to keep :) I got 5 Blu-Rays free with my first Blu-Ray player, so I guess those don't count, which means the first Blu-Ray I brought was The Mist. xplatinum
You must watch Baraka. It's THE best looking bluray out there, it's magnificient. A 70mm film shot entirely without dialogue, just sound and images, on six continents and in 24 countries, exploring the formation and evolution of Earth, the ascendance of man and the consequences of technology. Baraka offers a breathtaking 1080p high definition, 2.20:1-framed transfer. Filmed in 65mm and painstakingly and lovingly restored with an 8k UltraDigital HD Process, the film represents the current zenith of Blu-ray picture quality. The depth, clarity, and color reproduction of the film is incredible. Each scene provides awe-inspiring, reference-quality imagery that effortlessly places the viewer within each frame of the film regardless of its locale on the world's surface. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Baraka-Blu-ray-Review/1055/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/862804-achievement-unlocked-obtained-first-blu-ray/#findComment-592077068 Share on other sites
