Bawx
My Powerbook won't connect to any wireless network even though it recognizes them. (perhaps it's too old an can't use WPA-PSK) I want to buy an Wireless USB adapter but all the ones at Office Depot say Windowx XP and Vista/7. I have no idea where to get one that will work for an old Mac. Unless, maybe those ones will? Anyone know what I can do? Also, on the wireless icon on the taskbar, it says Airport: On, then I go into About this Mac > More info, and it says it's off. Weird.
Brian M. Veteran Posted January 8, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2010 Are you sure it's not a software issue? Have you tried booting from your OS install CD to see if you can connect from there?

Shadrack
I bought a cheap $14 Realtek USB WiFi (802.11G) stick off of Newegg and it worked just fine with my Mac Mini PPC. But it didn't use the "Airport" drivers, I had to download the ones of Realtek and they were kinda fugly and awkward. (no signal strength indicator in the top bar or anything fancy). Bawx
Can you link to that exact one?
Damian
Which PowerBook do you have? If it isn't a software issue: I recommend WIFI express cards for notebooks. Sticks out less.
