[Official] Mass Effect 2

@Treemonkeys

I didn't take the time to read everything in your post, but just by browsing your post I can say the answer to a lot of your questions is "No."

I wouldn't say the game is dumbed down, it's just a different game, and it's not necessarily a true RPG but rather a shooter RPG. By reading as many interviews as I have about this game, they wanted to give Mass Effect players the best experience they could and not necessarily RPG players the best experience they could. One of the biggest criticisms about the first game is how so much of the inventory, weapons, and character management, and pausing took you out of the game so much, so that was the biggest thing they wanted to address.

So if you're an RPG player who's OCD about managing your inventory, weapons, and stats, then this probably isn't the game for you.

Well I am about 4 hours into the game so far, I am really enjoying how improved the graphics are plus it actually runs smoother than ME1 on my PC. The story is also very intriguing so far.

I was starting to get a bad feeling that this is really dumbed down from ME1 but hopefully there is still just parts of the gameplay I have not seen yet.

Is there any way to view a map while you are in combat? When I press M it just brings up an arrow pointing me where to go.

Can anyone give me an overview of how to search planets for resources? I was messing around with this last night and ending up wasting all of my probes on one planet, couldn't find where to get more probes.

Is there any way to access your "inventory" when you are outside of the Normandy?

Do you find more armor as the game goes along? Right now I just have the standard armor + pre-order armor which looks incredibly stupid during the cut scenes (why no helmet option?) so I just use the standard one, despite it's lack of stats.

Is there any way to change your teamates armor or inventory?

you get probes from fuel stations. on PC you right lick and move the mouse around to look for resources then left click to send a probe down to the area you want to get thme from. Element Zero is really really hard to find. rest is pretty easy.

All your griefs come down to the inventory system which you can only bring up at a weapon loadout locker. You will find more armour as the game goes laong, especially from dead enemies. You can't change what you friends have in terms of armour. Just upgrade them. Only thing you can change is their weapons. It's a a little dumbed down, but i like it more. Their was wayyyyyyyyy too much management in the last one for my liking. The game didn't flow very well compared to this one.

It depends on where you are. I'm playing on a 360, so when I press start (pause menu), one of the tabs available is map, however, some missions do not have maps so it's greyed out.

Check out the official forums at Bioware's site - there is a sticky there of a topic about searching planets. As for probes, you buy them at the fuel depots (found in systems where the Mass Relay is).

For accessing your "loadout," you need to find an armory (like the one on the Normandy). During some missions, you'll find armories along the way, generally right after you find a new weapon.

As for armor, there are no other armor sets - you can buy (from vendors on various worlds) and research upgrades in the tech lab. You can also find some items around the various missions. Change your armor pieces in your personal cabin on the Normandy.

Your teamates do not have different armor available, only different looks once they are loyal. For their weapons, you can modify their loadout during the start of a mission, or when you leave the Normandy, after the Squad screen appears.

Oh yeah one more thing is there anyway to see the stats for your different guns? All I have been able to find is a basic description and I can't tell which gun should be better than the other.

There is a thread on the official forums at the Bioware site that has stats on the standard weapons and a few of the pre-order bonus items. As far as in-game, no there is no way to know.

Thanks for the info, I don't really see it as a bad thing either, I just felt like I was missing something I should have been paying attention to - probably because I am so used to managing the inventory in ME1. In ME1 I used MAYBE 20 of the armor and weapons while destroying or selling hundreds of others, so I can see why it needed to be scaled back.

Hey guys, so far I'm about 25 hours into my game and still haven't gotten Legion yet, and he's not showing up in my Journal. How do I obtain that character? Do I get him in a main mission or side mission?

I think you get him after you get reaper ftl drive. It's the last mission before going through omega 4 relay.

How I finished with no one dying ... well, I did all the loyalty quests for one. I also carefully chose who to send where at the end. Tali was in the pipe, Garrus was leading the second squad and I sent Thane (assassin) to guard the crew back to the ship. I guess it also helped that I was 100% paragon ... and I did the no-no dance with Miranda. :D But yes I also had all of the ship upgrades, and most of the character specific upgrades and weapons as well.

I finished the

derelict collector ship mission

last night. I'm guessing I have one more mission (

get the Reaper IFF

) before the suicide run? I'll be going around and doing all the character personal missions next before I do that though. I can't wait to get to the finale. But, I'm not really looking forward to having to do a lot of scanning in order to buy all the upgrades... :pinch:

You can do every main mission up to the suicide mission, then take as long as you want before you start the suicide mission. It is not forced upon you, and you will definitely know before you start it. You can go off and do as much as you want before starting it and you will be fine. Also, if you live through it you can go back and do as much as you want after the suicide mission.

I thought the derelict reaper mission and the IFF were the same mission? There is a mission where you board the collector ship (possibly the one you are talking about) but it is not a derelict collector ship, the only derelict ship you board in the main storyline is the reaper ship to get the IFF.

You get him during the

derelict reaper ship mission, he opens the core so you can destroy it, then gets injured and you take him back to the ship and decide whether to activate or not activate him, sort of like Grunt

.

The problem with that is you can't move them when you press shift and you can't tell them who to shoot which is annoying.

oops turns out if you hold shift and hold your rmb you can look around also if you move your crosshair over an enemy then press Q or E they'll attack that person, weird I knew you could do this in ME1 but completely forgot.

Yup, I never used it in ME1 and only started using Shift in ME2, I didn't discover you could move the camera around while paused until I had already beaten the game once and had watched a ME2 video that showed the camera moving. :p

Thanks for the tips guys. So if I complete the Reaper IFF mission, I'll still be able to go back to finish the other missions?

Yes, after the Reaper IFF mission you still have the Suicide mission which you decide when you wish to go and do it.

And if you live through the suicide mission you will also be able to go back and finish any previously unfinished quests (other than loyalty quests, because without doing those first, that person dies).

ALL RE USABLE JUST CREATE A NEW DR P ACCOUNT FOR EACH CODE

PEACE

It works even though I haven't gotten them to download yet, it says it goes through. You just have to make a new account for each code. Also it works for those not in the US.

Not exactly. You go to this page to register your code:

http://www.drpepper....ions/ea/signin/

After you go through the process it takes you to your bioware download page where they are supposed to be listed but mine haven't been yet. You don't need a US address.. I'm pretty sure they don't check, so just make something up.

Finished my first play though last night, have to say a bit disappointed with the ending :/ I mean the game was fantastic and I really enjoyed it but the ending made me feel "meh".

The giant humanoid reaper was a cop out, I mean what was even the point of it? as expected a reaper was [directly] controlling the Harbinger (as Sovereign did with Saren in ME1) and the reaper fleet coming towards the galaxy at the end, well I've been expecting that since the end of ME1 but it was still cool. I dunno was expecting more.... probably just me though

Overall it still a great game though (Y)

Completely agree, was LOVING the story until that, but overall I still think it was an awesome game and better than the first.

When I saw the giant man-reaper I was like you have to be ****ting me

The idea is the Collectors were creating a new reaper (under the order of Harbringer, a reaper supposedly out in dark space) out of raw genetic material. Due to that raw genetic material being humans "broken-down", the reaper took on the appearance of a human. It was not specifically designed to be human, it was sort of a side-effect of using humans as the main material.

So how far into the game do I start getting it on with the female crew members? (BTW I haven't started the IFF mission yet.)

Also, if I've been buttering up basically all of the female crew, will the game just randomly pick one for me?

you should be playing leisure suit larry...

this is clearly not the game for you

How could you not want to get with Miranda? She's modeled after and voiced by Yvonne Strahovski. That's pure win :D

Oh BELIEVE ME I have. But I've also been hitting on all of the female crew as well.

I'm just wondering if the game randomly picks who you get it on with if you spend an equal amount of time with each on them on the ship

The romance sub plots should only be seen as a complement rather than a main feature. If you're so desperate to playing dating sims, then go to newgrounds.com and enjoy that. >_>

By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Miranda is a butter face? I went from "O_O Wow, nice bod... >_< The face! ARGH!".

Just like how the fleet of reapers are giant crab like things, they must have used their genetic material to build the current fleet. Is it a crab or squid? Who knows lol.

Oh jesus christ, it's part of the game! And connected with an achievement! Throw me a bone here (no pun intended)

    • First time clicking on a Sayan Sen article after he started making clickbait, vague headlines recently. Didn't read, just came here to say the headline doesn't look like very cheap, vague clickbait this time. Are you okay?
    • Good review, and yeah the benchmark breakdown is pretty clear but also a little messy in a good way. It’s kinda interesting to see where the RX 9070 GRE slides in between the 7800 XT and the 9070 XT , especially when it comes to AI tasks and Blender style workloads. The side by side with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 4070 makes it feel obvious just how competitive the mid range GPU scene has gotten lately, and that’s great for creators and gamers too since you can pick based on your priorities rather than only chasing one single thing.
    • That's it. I finally uninstalled Firefox because they often keep pushing buggy updates, only to test them later and make users suffer. No longer is it my alternative browser to Edge. What a waste of energy. Firefox is bad for the environment, just like Chrome (wasting RAM/energy).

A newly published blog post details what IT admins should do to prepare for the upcoming launch. Next, we have new Windows 11 bugs. Users report that this month's security updates for Windows 11 cause all sorts of issues, including BitLocker bugs, OneDrive issues, black screens of death, and third-party integration in Office apps. Microsoft has not confirmed those yet, but it acknowledged other issues with its operating system. What Microsoft has confirmed is a bug where Recycle Bin delete prompts display internal file names instead of actual ones, and a year-old Windows JScript compatibility bug caused by security-focused engine changes. Moving to more positive news, Microsoft and Adobe are working on improving Windows performance in popular creative apps like Photoshop. Thanks to SPGO optimizations, users can expect up to 20% better performance. Finally, we have a few useful articles that can help you recover your PC or make it perform better. For one, we published a guide detailing what to do if your computer cannot boot after a clean Windows 11 install. There are two important steps you can try to get your system back to working in no time. Additionally, there is a more detailed guide on various CPU performance modes that could notably improve performance. This week, Microsoft announced its newest Surface devices powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 processors. There is the 12th-gen Surface Pro and the 8th-gen Surface Laptop. Both devices feature little to no visual differences compared to their predecessors from 2024, and most changes hide inside, including a better processor, faster graphics, enhanced NPUs, and more. The Surface Laptop also received a new haptic trackpad. Mozilla is currently working on a major Firefox redesign, and earlier this week, it published a roadmap of upcoming features and highlights of the upcoming "Project Nova" rework. Files, one of the best file managers for Windows 10 and 11, has been updated in the Preview channel with a long-requested feature. Tree View is finally available in version 4.1.4, allowing you to quickly browse deeply nested folders without leaving the main view. In addition, the update improved the Windows Fonts folder, allowing you to preview each font without opening the default viewer. This device has an Apple Watch-like dial for page turning, frontlight adjustment, and more. Software is simple and no-nonsense, but it also lacks some useful features and customization. Overall, the device proved interesting, but not flawless. On the gaming side Learn about upcoming game releases, Xbox rumors, new hardware, software updates, freebies, deals, discounts, and more. Forza Horizon 6 received two big updates this week. Alongside the Series 2 content update, developers pushed plenty of bug fixes and balancing tweaks. However, they also had to acknowledge the Eliminator CR-farming exploit and shut down the online mode temporarily. Luckily, only a few days later, another fix arrived, which re-enabled Eliminator and patched the exploit. Microsoft announced new games for Game Pass subscribers. Those include EA Sports FC 26, Junkster, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Abyssus, RV There Yet?, and more. Some existing games are leaving the catalog, so be sure to check out the full list here. New games are also available for GeForce NOW subscribers, and they include Embers of the Uncrowned Demo, Aphelion, Megastore Simulator, OPERATOR, Citizen Sleeper, and more. Rockstart Games had plenty of GTA-related news this week. For one, the company gave GTA V players another free update. Those still playing the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are no longer required to pay $40 to upgrade to the latest-gen version.
