Corel has launched the latest iteration of its renowned photo editing program - Corel PaintShop Pro X3. This software

brings advanced photo management, editing and creative tools - all packaged into this software and is like a photo enthusiast's dream come true, because of the support for different DSLR cameras.

Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 combines professional quality tools for organization and photo editing along with burning and sharing features for the first time. It also has high definition (HD) video capabilities.

Here is a highlight of the new features in Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3:

• All-new Organizer: The new integrated Organizer includes tools for rating, tagging, locating and quickly touching up image files. The Organizer also makes it easy to select images and view them in multiple ways. In just a few clicks, RAW images can be converted to another format for posting, photo sharing or printing.
  
• Multi-photo Adjustments: Editing and enhancing is faster than before.Changes made to an image can be captured and easily applied to multiple photos, removing the tedium of making the same changes over and over again.
  
• Smart Carver: Now, remove objects seamlessly and realistically and scale without distorting the image.
  
• Express Lab: This adds Color Balance, Local Tone Mapping, Contrast/Brightness, Sharpen and One Step Noise Removal.
  
• Camera RAW Lab: Supporting more than 350 RAW formats, the new RAW Lab makes it easy to adjust a variety of settings, such as white balance, exposure, brightness and saturation before processing. Adjustments made to any RAW image can be copied and applied to other RAW images in the Organizer.
  
• Object Extractor: It is now easy to precisely mask fine image details that are otherwise difficult to preserve.
  
• Project Creator: This one-stop tool makes it easy to create, edit and share projects. Produce photo books, collages, cards, calendars and photo slideshows including HD video in a few clicks. Share to YouTube, Facebook or Flickr. Photo projects can also be printed through Corel's online print service.

Don't understand why they have to add HD video capabilities into a image editing application. I guess they think it will sell more with a few extra half-baked features. I call that bloat, even though I should not condemn it before I've seen if it's good enough or not.

And that was a puny rebate you got for upgrading from an earlier version. Oh, checking their site they have actually lowered the upgrade price to $69.99 (nines sell). At least somewhat better upgrade price.

But, yeah, I agree with your point. Personally, I preferred this to Photoshop because it was simpler and easier to understand, but these days Paint.Net is ample for my needs.

I used Paint Shop Pro 7, 9 and X, that was good software. The quality of the software is kinda up and down.

I tried it out and OMG it's bloat. Upon loading it, it takes forever to load the program and it takes you right to your pictures folder, which while convenient if you have alot of pictures like myself it will drag the whole system down trying to load thumbnails. The Raw editor is nothing short of blah, just a few simple sliders and that's it. The HD video thing is a joke, it doesn't edit HD video AT ALL, it will simply let you add it to a slideshow and/or upload it directly to youtube from the app, whoopee. With all that said, the program itself will try to load 3 different apps when starting it, a tray monitor, a media catalogue and the editor itself. The Video portion is a part of a seperate app called project creator and upon loading that, about 3 other small executables will load into to memory, presumably codec's of some sort. This thing is nothing but bloat, although on paper it sounds impressive. The ONLY feature i've ever liked in PSP was the depth of field creator, and that was only when i didn't have a dslr to obtain the results myself.

Thanks for confirming some of what I suspected. PSP has really gone downhill since Corel took over I guess.

Adobe Photoshop seems to take forever to load up, too.

If you're in the "business", these programs might be perfect. But for me... just give me something that let's me resize and add cool text functions. lol

If you're looking for something simple and free then picasa really can't be beat in that category. I use photoshop CS4 on a daily basis on my laptop and it runs great and is very fast to load. PSP since v7 has been bloated and takes a while to load.

It might be from user's computer theme. Who knows.

Unless this program is for photographers that allows them to view pictures better with dark UI. Just like you watch the video on Hulu.com and click on 'lower lights' button.
