Blocking World of Warcraft?

Recommended Posts

Jeez, people. Just talk to them about it.

What the heck is with wanting to start a guerilla war over it?

Because there's no talking to someone who calls themselves a "bitch". Besides, for someone that's so eager to run to the kitchen to stuff her fat face with dinner leaving little for everyone else, I really feel no sympathy.

Also keep in mind that Internet gaming is an addiction and if you take it away then you might have to deal with a harsher reality somewhat like taking crack away from a crack addict lol they can get rather violent lol.

Edit your realmlist.wtf so when he tries to login it's like "Server is down" then when you try it "oh, hey it's working now"

Or maybe the hosts file even, changing it to the loopback 127.0.0.1 when trying to access Blizzards servers. :p

Honestly, for a guy, maybe talking about it might work if he's a reasonable person. Of course, you could always force a social life upon him, even if you don't really like him. Take him out, let him get drunk and/or find a woman.

If he's got his computer on until 5am every night you could probably talk to Housing Services about getting a new roommate or moving to a new room. Even if he isn't voice chatting, the sound of a mouse and keyboard and light of a monitor going all night is probably enough for them to step in to protect your ability to study.

I hope he/she kicks your *** for doing this. Seriously.

If you're too much of a pansy to actually talk out your issues, you don't even deserve a room mate.

lol, like people actually WANT roommates.

Only good roommate is a friend, and even then people can get on each other's nerves. That's just life though.

If someone is up till 5am on the computer smashing his keyboard and saying "moar healsz plx" I'd definitely boot them out. And he's not a pansy, he's being passive aggressive. Know the difference.

Also, you should ask for a new roommate. Don't bother reasoning with him, he's going to be adamant.

Here's a brilliant idea.

If you're tired of it. You too.. could move out.

:o. Betcha never thought of that one.. didja?

If he's living in a dorm he's probably paid up for the whole semester and can't switch rooms without permission of the people administering the dorm, moving out isn't much of an option.

I'd love to move out or find another roommate. Bad part was that room switches could only be done until week 4 of the fall term. The only option now is to get a single dorm room, costing about $500/per term extra.

Everyone said that you'll get used to each other and besides the WoW and leaving his dirty laundry pile up a mile high (which I solved by suggesting he keep it in his closet) he's not that bad. We don't talk at all... but.

I guess I'm a bit tired of waking up in the middle of the night to him moving around to get pop and slamming the fridge door or just generally having a light on in our room until the wee hours of the morning. Its a bit hard to fall asleep with lights on.

Have you confronted him? Seriously, the living situation that you are in isn't "good" by any means. He sounds like a jackass and maybe you need to go to the appropriate persons and have his ass thrown out/removed.

You mentioned that you don't talk at all. It might be worth it to try... My first roommate and I didn't really talk at all. He was a redneck and I a computer guy / musician... But after a few months we became really good friends. The people we hung out were nothing like each other, but we still got along perfectly fine. You learn a lot from each other...

And if it's a "no" to that, it still might be worth talking to a Dean / Administrator about this in a sincere manner. Exceptions have been made in the past. Blocking him from using WoW and ALSO being stuck with him as a roommate are just going to make things worse.

    • "just $100 per TB"? Just? Are we trying to make this seem like the new normal? Kinda weird to make it sound like that is not a ridiculously expensive asking price.
    • The reviews you refer to mean nothing. Where there is no journalism there is no reason to call the gaming media's opinion pieces "reviews". For GP games there is indeed a metric for success - increasing subscriptions. Which turns in revenue. The only circumstance in which subs do not rise when great is being released is a Game Pass system where the company is close to fully saturated with customers in a subscription. However, in that case as the theory goes you spend aplenty in all kind of games - from shady live service cash cows and customer offending agitprop crap in purple colours to robust and entertaining single player games. And keep a solid level of profitability. Ignoring the simply innocuous but mid games MGS has released primarily of the second kind.
    • Report: Microsoft to use AWS to help GitHub deal with a major surge in demand by Pradeep Viswanathan Thanks to the surge of coding AI agents, GitHub's usage has skyrocketed over the past 12 months. To meet this demand, GitHub started with a plan in October 2025 to increase capacity by 10x. However, by early this year, the company realized that it needed 30x scale. This rapid growth has caused severe strain on the platform's reliability, resulting in several small outages over the past few months. In April, GitHub published a long blog post explaining the steps it is taking to resolve these reliability issues. In the post, the company also confirmed that it is working toward a multi-cloud architecture for better resilience. Today, Business Insider reported that GitHub is turning to Amazon Web Services to help deal with a major surge in AI-driven coding activity. It is important to note that GitHub is still in the process of moving completely to the Azure cloud. The current plan is to move the platform fully to Azure by 2027 so that it can scale better as per developer demand. Therefore, the current decision to utilize AWS might be part of a short-term plan to meet immediate demand. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that GitHub is using multiple cloud providers with the following statement: For Microsoft, the decision highlights the operational pressure behind the AI boom. GitHub has to stay reliable for developers at a time when rivals such as Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, and other AI coding tools are gaining attention. And the decision to use AWS for computing capacity seems practical given the circumstances.

    • Qwen 3.6 is better value per dollar, and you can run it locally for free.
