Christopher Nolan Overseeing Superman for Warner Bros

I'm more excited for this than Batman 3. I'd love to see his vision of Superman, and thankfully sticking to the characters roots as closely as possible, while maintaining the level of realism we've come to expect. I wanna hear some casting!

dunno quite hyped for Batman 3, never really liked Superman franchise but with Nolan on board you know it'll be good (Y)

I think a reboot is what should have been done in the first place, rather than attempting to continue on from the Christopher Reeve movies. If it can get the same sort of treatment that Batman did then fantastic, I'll look forward to a new and edgier Superman franchise.

The question though... WHO should play Superman?

I have to agree with this, it should've been done, and not done as a sequel to Superman II. The problem with how SR was done is you don't know which version of Superman II it's a sequel of because in one movie he gets his powers removed then sleeps with Lois in the other version he sleeps with Lois then gets his powers removed and of course in SR you get a hybrid Kryptonian/Earthling in Lois's son. And that would've made for an interesting sequel to SR.

Here's something that's high on my list of things I desperately want to be true but know will never happen...Mad Men star and walking embodiment of a lost era of American virility Jon Hamm is reportedly being "seriously considered" to play Superman. What does "seriously considered" mean? Well, it could pretty much mean anything from idle speculation to done deal. My money's on the former, but here's hoping. [Think McFly Think]

According to Deadline The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, who has been placed in a ?Godfather? role to the Superman reboot, is currently meeting with a number of potential directors and will submit his choice to Warner Bros. within the next few weeks. David Goyer came up with the concept and wrote a script with Jonathan Nolan, but now the Batman team will be handing the directorial duties to someone else.

The names mentioned include Duncan Jones (Moon), Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles), Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), Tony Scott (Unstoppable), and Zack Snyder (Watchmen).

Out of the directors above I think we can rule Liebesman out as he just signed to direct Clash of the Titans 2 and will be unavailable. Zack Snyder could also be busy as he plans to direct Xerxes, a prequel to 300 which is currently in the scripting stage, although he could delay that or let someone else direct if Superman takes his fancy.

Tony Scott has been hit and miss over the years, so I would go for one of the two up and coming directors: Duncan Jones or Matt Reeves.

Apparently Warner Bros. has to get the movie made by 2012 as the studio stands to lose certain rights to the heirs of Superman creator Jerry Siegel. Filming will almost certainly begin next year so that it can hit its Christmas 2012 release date.

Not fond of Tony Scott who seems to throw every visual trick in the book at you all at once.

I would also go for the two up and coming directors.

Cool choice for Superman if it pans out. Enough with the Reeves wannabe. Make it your own and take it new places.

I am a huge fan of Superman Returns, as well as Routh's interpretation of the role - less so of where the storyline was headed. However, it was a big blatant nostalgia-fest - and as such I don't think it had the ability to go the distance...

i'm in the same camp as njlouch, so i'd like to see some consistency with brandon routh, (as much as i love mad men and john hamm) but still go in a separate direction from superman returns. like writers of returns said, we don't have to treat it as a linear story line, rather than more in a james bond manner where we just kind of get dropped into a different adventure.

i'd like to see what matt reeves would do with superman, because not only do i love cloverfield, but he has his roots in felicity. keep zack snyder far away. if i have to sit through a half hour of slow motion/ramping in a superman movie i'm going to rage. it was really out of place in superman returns.

as for the story, where matt reeves's experience in romantic drama comes in, i actually think we can reference the campy lois and clark series from the early 90s, and the dynamic lois and clark have from season 1 to season 3, which in a way, i think feels a lot like season 1 and 2 of chuck. we love the goofy spy antics, but the core of the show is the to be or not to be a spy, does sarah love regular ol' chuck, spy chuck, or bryce/shaw, and the pressure, loneliness, and burden of keeping a secret identity and the strain it puts on his personal life. - wow, did i just realize chuck as a rehash of superman? - i don't think these issues are explored well enough in the films since donnor's superman. frankly without it superman really is sort of a flat character.

so once we have that lois and clark love story as the emotional anchor, we can now take a character from the great depression and place him in a world of the great recession, come up with some way of re-remaking lex luthor into erik prince (so basically politically active billionaire with a personal military, who is under fire for allegations of war crimes and weapons trafficking), and you have your first hour or so of part one of a three to four film story arch. of course, we're all tired of lex luthor, so simultaneously, as the mess known as lois lane's love life between superman, clark, a stalking from afar lex luthor, and a throw away character is being explored, i think we'd all like to see a braniac story line that further complicates superman's sense of identity, before ending with a giant saving the earth from destruction sequence and a foreshadowing of a greater impending threat. then we get a lois and clark romance amongst the backdrop of a darkseid death of superman story line that intertwines with the political and para-militaristic rise of lex luthor. that would take up the next few films, and maybe ending with the over throw of luthor and a battle with doomsday that i guess can be re-imagined as being luthor's last resort to defeating superman. top it off with a marriage proposal or wedding if it can be made to fit the tone.

tl;dr:

director: matt reeves - cloverfield and felicity

superman/clark kent: brandon routh

4 film story arc

part 1: lois, clark, luthor, +1 love story + braniac

part 2: lois and clark love story + arrival of darkseid, political rise of luthor, death of superman

part 3: return of superman defeat of darkseid + luthor takes credit, becomes president + lois finding out clark/superman rocky relationship because of trust issues.

part 4: lois and clark go woodward and bernstein on luthor + luthor releases doomsday - end with some grand romantic gesture.

I am a huge fan of Superman Returns, as well as Routh's interpretation of the role - less so of where the storyline was headed. However, it was a big blatant nostalgia-fest - and as such I don't think it had the ability to go the distance...

I also loved Superman Returns, not just because I thought it was a fairly good movie, but because as you say it was a nostalgia-fest from the opening credit pretty much. The first time I heard that damn music I practically teared up lol

The storyline, eh. Not sure it was the greatest decision to go the route they did, but I still think it had major possibilities. The way things are going now though, we'll probably never know I suppose. Plus, I thought Spacey did an excellent Luthor.

While I would welcome another Superman movie I would be just as happy if they skpped it and went straight to Batman/Superman.

Personally, I'd much rather see a stand alone Superman movie than any joint movie (unless it's a Justice League movie etc). Consider the fact that Batman has his own mega-franchise right now, while Superman still doesn't have his own series of movies yet. Plus, I'm not so sure they'd want to combine Superman and Batman at this point into one single movie. Maybe two movies or something, or some sort of Justice League style thing like I said. Also, they'd have to introduce some other major DC character into the equation, maybe Wonder Woman or something like that (but she's getting her own movie so meh).

I thought Brandon Routh did an awesome freakin' job with Superman/Clark Kent.

And Spacey... that goes without saying. I did NOT like where they went with

his master plan, though... it was completely stupid.

What I'd like to see is a Nolan-ish realistic take on the franchise, and maybe a meet-up

between Superman and Batman; sort of a first meeting kind of thing. Have Superman

trying to stop something and Batman shows up and ends up sharing stuff from his own

investigation into the plot.

Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky has joined the list of potential directors for Warner Bros.' new Superman movie, reports Heat Vision.

The list includes Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, Tony Scott and Zack Snyder. The trade adds that Ben Affleck was also briefly in the running but he is reportedly no longer pursuing the job.

Aronofsky is said to be in active talks, though it's early.

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will executive produce the film, targeted for a 2012 release.

Yesterday, we reported that Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky had been added to the growing list of potential directors being sought for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' upcoming reboot of Superman. Now, a new rumor has Natalie Portman joining the project if Darren Aronofsky actually comes aboard to direct the revived Man of Steel.

Moviehole reports that a friend whom worked with Darren Aronofsky on Black Swan claims the filmmaker has been talking about taking on this project for quite a while. And that the talks mainly revolved around Aronofsky wanting his Black Swan lead to play Lois Lane.

Rumor has it that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures originally wanted Natalie Portman to star in Superman Returns. If Darren Aronofsky is announced as the director in the next couple of days, it is speculated that Natalie Portman will definitely sign on soon after.

    • "just $100 per TB"? Just? Are we trying to make this seem like the new normal? Kinda weird to make it sound like that is not a ridiculously expensive asking price.
    • The reviews you refer to mean nothing. Where there is no journalism there is no reason to call the gaming media's opinion pieces "reviews". For GP games there is indeed a metric for success - increasing subscriptions. Which turns in revenue. The only circumstance in which subs do not rise when great is being released is a Game Pass system where the company is close to fully saturated with customers in a subscription. However, in that case as the theory goes you spend aplenty in all kind of games - from shady live service cash cows and customer offending agitprop crap in purple colours to robust and entertaining single player games. And keep a solid level of profitability. Ignoring the simply innocuous but mid games MGS has released primarily of the second kind.
    • Report: Microsoft to use AWS to help GitHub deal with a major surge in demand by Pradeep Viswanathan Thanks to the surge of coding AI agents, GitHub's usage has skyrocketed over the past 12 months. To meet this demand, GitHub started with a plan in October 2025 to increase capacity by 10x. However, by early this year, the company realized that it needed 30x scale. This rapid growth has caused severe strain on the platform's reliability, resulting in several small outages over the past few months. In April, GitHub published a long blog post explaining the steps it is taking to resolve these reliability issues. In the post, the company also confirmed that it is working toward a multi-cloud architecture for better resilience. Today, Business Insider reported that GitHub is turning to Amazon Web Services to help deal with a major surge in AI-driven coding activity. It is important to note that GitHub is still in the process of moving completely to the Azure cloud. The current plan is to move the platform fully to Azure by 2027 so that it can scale better as per developer demand. Therefore, the current decision to utilize AWS might be part of a short-term plan to meet immediate demand. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that GitHub is using multiple cloud providers with the following statement: For Microsoft, the decision highlights the operational pressure behind the AI boom. GitHub has to stay reliable for developers at a time when rivals such as Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, and other AI coding tools are gaining attention. And the decision to use AWS for computing capacity seems practical given the circumstances.
