5 Reasons you still need to be a PC gamer

That's totally down to personal opinions

I agree, it's all about opinion. I support PC gaming as well as console gaming. I am just pointing out that if you choose to be a PC only gamer, you could be missing out on a ton of great titles. If you are a console only gamer, you could be missing out on a ton of great PC titles. However, it appears that the trend has been moving towards console gaming. Steam is great, and I am all about digital distribution. However, when I go to Best Buy, and I walk past the aisles and aisles of Wii games, PS3 games, PS2 games, Xbox 360 games taking up huge floor space with thousands of titles to choose from, then I go to our PC game aisle, and it's super tiny. Not only is it tiny, but it's hardly stocked, it's not promoted (other than a Games for Windows sign hanging off the top off the shelf), with a dismal selection to choose from.

Steam is slowly making the PC attractive again.

Indeed. I wish they supported Mac though, and I wish they made more games today for the Mac.

As I said in my previous wall-o-text, owning both is the best of two worlds. Yes, there's definitely much more focus and attention on the consoles and they are getting a lot more games from different genres, even niche and experimental games.

These are the sort of games that would also hit the PC back in the good ole' days but ever since the great PC decline of ... 2007-2008, the PC gamers have basically been getting rubbish ports among the 'trusted AAA sources' like Valve, Blizzard etc.

I do however believe, some of the exclusives PC gamers are getting more than make up for the slew of console exclusives, as they are games you play for months if not years ( Blizzard games ) and most console games really suffer from the

"Play & Forget" syndrome, lot of hype, lot of attention, 1-2 months later and it's dead. That of course comes at the price of very long wait times but that's what that is. So yes, there's pros and cons by owning one platform exclusively but I do believe

both platforms have their own reasons for being worth owning, for sure.

Although, the more 'mature' games and long wait times between AAA exclusive titles on the PC also renders it a pretty poor 'advertising / money-making' platform so to speak. Consoles are the new hype, getting games for every age group and personal interests

and they suffer from less widespread piracy and are able to fetch a lot more money with DLC, dashboard content etc. so not only do they attract the crowd, they also guarantee developers money if they just create a decent game and release a few DLC packs.

So it basically got the snowball effect because there's money to be had, not something you can say with the PC as it's so much harder to justify DLC on there, they have to release it for free, they can't push crappy "glitter" content in form of avatars, themes and whatnot

and they need expanded support because of the fidgety nature of PCs, hardware / software incompatibilities and so on. and last but not least, piracy. Pirating games on the PC these days have become a norm even among non-tech folks - Even little brothers and colleagues who can barely switch on a computer without setting it alight know how to install a torrent program and visit The Pirate Bay.

So the only companies that see potential in the PC, will get the core crowd, the people who are mostly 'online' so to speak and the overall goal is to create a more streamlined structure - Allow developers more security in their games, be able to make money off of DLC etc. and that's why Steam is becoming ever so popular.

The PC just isn't lucrative enough compared to the consoles.

Not sure why the hell this post went in some sort of analysis direction.

Indeed. I wish they supported Mac though, and I wish they made more games today for the Mac.

As I said above, it's all about the dollars and I honestly don't see a market big enough on the Mac to support developers or valve going in that direction.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. The technical specs of the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor M.2 2280 Interface PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0 NAND Flash Samsung V-NAND TLC Controller Samsung In-house Controller Cache Memory Samsung 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM Sequential Read Speed Up to 7,450 MB/s Sequential Write Speed Up to 6,900 MB/s Random Read (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,400,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD1) Up to 80,000 IOPS Operating Temperature 0°C to 70°C Reliability (MTBF) 1.5 Million Hours Endurance 1,200 TBW (Total Bytes Written) Get it at the link below: Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM): $369.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • Glad im on the right boat. Tidal has lots of issues in terms of app and music mix, its worst than spot but its honest. Spot algo is very tendentious and they pess less to artists, so im comfortable with the tidal errors, for now.
