Opera 10.50 Beta 2 released

Recommended Posts

Opera seems to mess up everytime I recover from hibernation. (Close button adds a tab, transparency goes haywire) Anybody else getting this? Or is it just me?

I think it is because of the GPU acceleration used in Opera. If you install new video drivers with Opera open, the same thing happens. I am sure since it is rare to have GPU acceleration, many will run into similar issues.

Too bad Safari is the only browser that has a picture perfect Aqua interface. I hate the fact all those other browser developers are trying to reinvent the wheel by creating custom interfaces and custom services (like spell-check) instead of using the native ones.

This. Other browsers also just don't feel as fluid as Safari. For instance, Chrome is plenty fast at rendering, but when, say, scrolling or resizing, Safari is much, much smoother because it uses standard OS X conventions for rendering.

Opera 10.50 isn't hardware accelerated: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2009/12/22/from-all-of-us-to-all-of-you

Another big technological change is happening in graphics rendering. In Opera 10.10, VEGA (Opera's vector graphics library) is only used for rendering SVG. In Opera 10.5 VEGA is used for rendering all graphics in Opera, including content on webpages and the user interface. Currently VEGA is a pure software rendering engine, with the possibility to add hardware accelerated back-ends in future releases. But the software rendering is incredibly optimized, which means that Opera 10.5 has very fast painting performance even without using hardware acceleration.

Honestly, I went back to B1. I was having several little issues with B2.

Yes, me too....only I went back to FF 3.6 for now, Beta 1 was in a crash cycle on my laptop and Beta 2 seems slower and buggier on my desktop. I just don't like using two different browsers, and that TwentyTen theme just makes me want to use FF.

My eyes! :| :omg:

Yeah... glass is nice if used properly (the default skin does a good job of that), but the usability factor of that one is next to zero. :|

Also for those who are experiencing problems with B2, try the weekly from yesterday instead of reverting to B1.

Not really, the glass goes out of your way when you actually use it. Anyways, its just a test browser for me, and I don't plan on keeping either the skin or the browser for long. I am extremely comfortable using Chrome, Opera doesn't give me the same feeling yet.

Benchmarks show it slower than the snapshots before it, the snapshot released after the beta 2 was quicker though (and back in line with the previous snapshots)

Yes, it feels like the previous builds did. I'll re-install on my laptop tomorrow and see if the crash cycle has been corrected.

IMO, Windows Aero is pretty horrible at it by default as well. For me the "OMG transparency everywhere!!!" effect faded pretty quickly after Mac OS X' initial release and I haven't since regained it. Luckily you can disable it.

My main gripe with Aero are the glass streams (while they were toned down a notch for Windows 7, I still find them distracting). Anyways, that's another topic...

On topic, there's a new build that, in addition to crash/performance related fixes, contains minor updates to the default skin:

Opera%2010.5%20skin%20update.png

They got rid of the ugly clipped shadow behind the tab, and gave inactive tabs and the new tab button a new look. The panel's height has also been fixed, making it flush with the page's toolbar.

edit: Another change: the ugly divider for tab thumbnails is gone. Whether it's enabled or not, it'll look the same.

after some time using opera it kinda "sticks" in the foreground and open other programs they wont appear instaed just open in background. anyone suffers the same problem?

Opera already has a cross-platform solution for spell checking in place. It would probably take longer to use the system's UI. Doesn't it use the system dictionary, though?

Yeah totally. Seems to be getting better everyday! I love the skin now!

Those changes look good. Do you have a link to this updated build, since Beta 2 won't auto-update to it?

Just switched after lasting using it @ beta 1, seems to fix few probs , but still Orkut Chat is not supporting it. And im still unhappy with its download manger , its just not faster on contrary to its actual performance.

BTW i customized it a lot!

nice! i tried to install it but realized that it creates a folder called Opera in program files. the beta2 i used (and im still using) created a folder called opera 10.5 beta.

i also tried to rename the opera10.5 beta folder to opera and run rc1 setup again but it just kills all my bookmarks and open tabs.

unusuable that way, sadly. :(

is there a fast and easy way to install opera rc1 over b2 and keep all the bookmarks and so on?

Navigate to

%appdata%\Roaming\Opera

Copy everything from inside the "Opera 10 beta" folder into the "Opera" folder, over write everything if necessary.

Remember to backup.

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
