Well, I had never read the books prior to watching the show (actually, I had never even heard of the books). But, I was excited none the less. Now, I'm done with the show.

The pilot was ok, but the next 4 episodes were boring as hell. Some action finally came around the 5th/6th episode mark, then Ned was stupidly killed in the 9th episode. I didn't even bother to watch the last episode of the season. This show is dead to me now.

Your loss.

This isn't a HURR DURR action series. It's very plot heavy.

 +1

I never said it should be "HURR DURR" action series. All I'm saying is that they killed off the one character I actually liked. They had him sitting in a dungeon for a long time, doing nothing, then brought him out and killed him. Stupid.

If you like the show, great. Keep watching it. The acting is pretty good, and it's nice that it doesn't shy away from the adult themes and imagery. However, I don't care for any other character on the show. None of them were as engaging or as likable as Ned. Certainly, not enough to root for. And not enough to care to see what happens.

This doesn't really cater to the nice and likable characters, like in real life it's he a holes, ******** and those willing to do anything for power that go tHe long way.

It's all summed up by the duel at at awry. " you didn't fight honorably" " no' but he did"

Loved the show, easily the best thing I've seen on TV for a while. I liked it so much that I've brought the books, and I am thoroughly enjoying reading them.

AStaley.

So you watched it just because of Sean Bean/Ned Stark? Personally I'd never watch a show I don't like even if there is one character or actor I like in it. In fact you should be happy they killed him, so you could stop watching.

In my opinion killing of likable characters create emotions in the viewer that isn't fairly common in TV-series (who always keep popular characters to keep ratings up). Fresh and daring in my opinion. But regarding this show that was of course already decided 1996 when the first book came out. It was just a matter of finding a character who could play him well.

I just want it to be the third season so the incest King will be dead already, ****ing hate his character. ****ing shouted in joy when I read he gets murdered at his own wedding in A Storm of Swords.

Watch the spoilers. I would venture to guess that most of the people here haven't read the books.

Let's humor you here for a second, even if Ned Stark was the only character you liked I would assume his son would give you cause to watch as he is essentially his fathers son in every way but of course you will never know that now and regardless you obviously cared enough to come and tell us that you will not be watching, just like you have your right to an opinion I have the right to think it is stupid which I certainly do. Either way whatever floats yer boat (Y)

I am glad someone picked up that metaphor, one of my favorite lines and fights so far :D

That was kind of the idea of Eddard Stark from the beginning. The one character (well, that you've seen so far) thats always trying to do the right thing, and what does he get for it? Beheaded.

Honorable and right isn't always the same though.

Is it better to be honorable and have thousands die in a war, or do the "right thing" and have a king from the wrong bloodline ?

Ned trying to stop Joffrey from becoming King has a lot less to do with him not being a trueborn son and more with the Lannisters (Cersei, mostly - but Jaime and Tywin also) having all the power in the Seven Kingdoms.

Also - Joffrey is hardly an innocent child.

Your comment I can sympathize with. I have not read the books, but I have them waiting after I finish reading The Stand so watching the TV show was my entry into the series.

I have a friend at work who told me about this series and how good it was. However the most important thing he told me was, do not get attached to any character, as the writer will go off and kill them like it is nothing. Even knowing that, I was still stunned by that event. Probably does not do you any good now, but thought I would through that out there.

Ned Stark's death was George RR Martin's way of making a 'name' for the series. To say 'I have the balls to kill off what you think is the main character'.

Kind of like the Star Wars EU used the death of

Chewbacca

to sell the New Jedi Order book series.

The second season of the wildly popular fantasy series Game of Thrones will start filming later this summer.

Many fans are wondering which actors will be added to the cast to take up the roles introduced in the second book of the Song of Ice and Fire series.

George R.R. Martin recently announced on his blog that the actor to play Brienne Tarth was found during the first round of casting calls. Yes, the gigantic and awkwardly pretty Gwendoline Christie will play the part.

Brienne is an important character in the series, as her story tangles up with several other characters, especially Jamie Lanister.

She is, in the novels, described as a freakishly tall, and not particularly attractive blonde woman. She?s also a tough woman who wishes nothing more than to be a knight, and her fighting prowess is among the best in Westeros. Her most important actions may not be in the second novel, but knowing how much focus will be on her later, it?s important that she be well cast.

Gwendoline Christie is by no means an ugly actor, but, at 6?3?, she does have the height, and her face is plain enough that a bit of bad makeup can give her a poor complexion easily, which will be enough.

As with the other supposed-to-be-ugly character, Tyrion Lanister, the producers don?t seem to have placed a high priority on locating an actually ugly person for the part.

Apperently Christie came into the audition already costumed and pre-uglied because it was an immediate reaction from the show?s creators.

"This was another one of those cases where there was hardly any debate," Martin explained in the blog post. "The day the first batch of auditions went up for the role, we looked at a dozen actresses who were reading for Brienne and one actress who WAS Brienne."

"Gwendoline gave a great reading, and her look was just perfect. No, when she auditioned, she did not look she does in the photo above," he continued, referring to her headshot, which he also posted. "She came in looking? well, like Brienne. It's a thrill to have her join the cast."

The New Season of Game of Thones will premier on HBO in spring of 2012.

She actually isnt nearly as ugly as I would imagine Brienne being but I reckon it should not be hard to add some buck teeth and have make up take care of the rest (Y) Good choice imo :)

Stannis and Melisandre Cast!

Brit actor Stephen Dillane, who played Merlin in Antoine Fuqua's King Arthur (starring Clive Owen) has been cast as Stannis Baratheon ? younger brother to Robert, older brother to Renly. Stannis, believing that Robert has no natural born heirs, is ready to go to war to prove that he is the rightful successor to Robert's throne.

Dutch actress Carice van Houten (Valkyrie, Black Book) has been cast as Melisandre. Lady Melisandre's powers of prophecy may be the key to Stannis' conquest, or the seed of his destruction.

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
