I suppose, with only knowing the show, that's the most logical way to look at it. On the other hand, I like to think he changed in there because he was the biggest and the strongest of the giants, not out of bromance.

Hahaha, yeah, I'm not into the bromance motivation, but giants are scarce and seeing one die got the old adrenaline going.

There is no fight scene with the giant for one.

The episodes cost about $6 million each, so about a typical Hollywood film budget for nearly 10 hours.  Of course they're shot on various locations so travel costs take up quite a bit.  CGI unfortunately gets a backseat on making dragons and giants and dire wolves, although they do use CGI fill-in quite a bit in the backgrounds.

To be fair, the fight isn't "seen" in the book either, only the aftermath and Ghost wasn't even there. Then again, the show is not like the books with POV characters.

 

To anyone curious, these were the casualties north of the wall (Tormund was not in the fight):

Looking forward to the last ep of the season, from the title of the ep I imagine it will feature of have bran in it, I haven't read the books but I get the impression he has an important role to play, I just find that particular story arc a bit meh.  I want more nights watch and more white walkers.  Those are some icy guys you can enjoy a drink with in the summer.

Loved the Brienne vs Hound fight

that was a great touch. I was really looking for to

Lady Stoneheart. I was a bit disappointed she was a no show. I'm guessing she is busy commandeering drones!

 

All in all, a great end to the Third Book which was the most action packed. Now the wait until next year  :(

I am so pumped because it looks like we'll be seeing Jaqen again. I had always hoped we would see that great character again. Little Stark is going to become a bad a** with some training I imagine.

Don't expect a big reunion between them since it hasn't happened so far in the books.  He arrives back in a way, but don't expect much out of it yet.

 

Of course that doesn't mean it can't happen in the show since Brienne doesn't meet the Hound like that in the books.

Faceless Men, don't wear the same face twice if I'm not mistaken.

 

I haven't seen the episode yet and I'm kind of scared of that fight since it's a huge departure plot wise. Tell me I'll be all right...

Indeed they don't.

 

I was scared about Brienne and the Hound meeting too, but I think it turned out pretty good.  I like the Hound "dying" from that instead of from a fight with the Tickler and Polliver.

Use the time to read the books and maybe GRRM will have released the next book by the time you finish the current ones. If not... then it might leave you wanting for even more since the last book ends with the mother of all cliffhangers.

I found that to be the worst finale so far, just no impact.  Keeping in mind that the worst finale for game of thrones standards is still high quality entertainment but just no where near as suspenceful or impactful as past ones.

It was a good episode, even with the contrived fight between Brienne and Sandor, but Tyrion's segment completely ruined it. They replaced one of the driving forces behind him with Shae, an actual #####.

Exactly, I felt so disappointed. The whole scene felt so dumbed down compared to the book. Also, no Lady Stoneheart. Worst Finale ever.

Agreed, tho I liked Brienne/Sandor clashing together and Brandon's segment because of the action. Everything else was kinda boring IMO.

That particular bit of backstory is what made Tyrion into the person he is and will be. It is the reason he went up into the Tower of Hand, the line his father crossed for the only girl that actually loved him in spite of what he was. It is the reason Jaimie actually helped Tyrion escape, because he lied to him all his life and robbed him of his happiness, because Tywin told him to do it. As you can imagine, Tyrion will probably never forgive Jaimie for this, even if he saved his life.

 

And you want to know the real kicker? The backstory is in the show but incomplete as they only tell the lie that Tyrion knew until Jaimie came to his cell (Tyrion tells it to Bronn before he meets Shae if I'm not mistaken). They only needed an extra minute of dialogue and the exchange with Tywin reworded, there was no CGI or any other special effects required. Hell, they could have just cut the sex scene if they were so adamant about keeping the show under 65 minutes. You can read part of the book dialogue bellow:

guards. He made me... watch.? Aye, and more than watch. I took her too... my wife...

right to the fletching. Blood seeped out around the shaft, dripping down into his pubic hair and

over his bare thighs.?You shot me,? he said incredulously, his eyes glassy with shock.

Their relationship was obviously deeper in the book, but they also had more time. The story is more or less the same, probably the biggest difference is when she tracks Jon and shoots him with 3 arrows, while in the book she only shoots him once in the leg as he tries to escape the wildlings at the tower. They went a bit overboard with the 3 arrows thing since, realistically, he wouldn't have healed in time to take part in the battle at Castle Black. Another thing is that Jon doesn't actually see her get shot and doesn't know who actually did.

Why SHE Wasn't In The "Thrones" Finale

"It's a great question, because it's all I asked about last year when I was doing [the episode with Brotherhood Without Banners leader] Beric Dondarrion - who ultimately is the person who finds Catelyn and turns her into Lady Stoneheart. But no, they didn't do it. It was never on the docket to do this season ? ever.

They [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] have such a challenge adapting the books into a really focused television experience. It's very hard, it's very complicated, it's much harder then they've been given credit for, I think ? and they do a brilliant job.

But to bring back Michelle Fairley, one of the greatest actresses around, to be a zombie for a little while ? and just kill people? It is really sort of, what are we doing with that? How does it play into the whole story in a way that we're really going to like? It just didn't end up being a part of what was going to happen this season.

And finally one [more] reason: In case you didn't notice, a lot happens this season. To add that in is something they opted out of. But what's funny is that it was never going to be in the season, yet it took off on the Internet like it was going to happen."
