BC PS3?

If not if you have a decent PC emulate FF12 on it.

There's a thread about ps2 emulation somewhere in the gamer section. I tried it but I gotta say it stutters quite a bit so if you have a ps2 that is handy it's probably better to just use it. Maybe I had my settings wrong though. The game I was trying was FFX, I should mention that.

Cannot bring myself to finish this game, it's just so terrible.

I feel the same way, I've always been a huge Final Fantasy fan, I own a physical copy all the main series in some form ignoring 11, but 13 has been nothing but a disappointment for me and I just can't be bothered with it.

Really hope FFvs13 turns out great.

i traded this game in to get killzone 2, worth it....

this is easily the worst FF ever...

It sounds like I'm one of the only people on Neowin who likes this game  .

I have a good feeling about 13 Versus. Just my intuition though, since we've seen precious little on the game since the original E3 2006 trailer. I believe there was a shaky-cam video that got released from TGS a while back, but it didn't show much of anything - just the character running around and then a quick shot of a battle. Still, if it's going to have a Kingdom Hearts-style battle system then I'm already intrigued.

Your not. I loved it.

They changed the formula up a bit from previous games, which I applaud them for. Game could have been alot worse if it continued along the path of games such as Halo and COD, re-hashing to make a profit. Battle system was great, less freedom but still felt great and fun in the scope of the game. Story was good, not the greatest and TBH I expected more from FF, but it was good and the ending was epic. So much I kept a save right before, just to replay/re-watch it whenever I want. Game sold well (believe it is the fastest selling title in the franchise) so I can only hope that, with them releasing a x360 version in Japan means good news about VS coming to us here. I'd love to play it.

I've been wanting to get my hands on a Jx360 to play some of the Japan exclusive games, and with this FF13 being released there I just might go ahead and snag me one (if I can find it) as a Christmas gift. :)

I didn't like it as much as I like other JPRGs before it, the battle system for me was the only thing that was good. The story was meh, the characters where just, I dunno, not much work there. I don't mind that it started off linear but it should've opened up faster I'd say. I dunno how Versus will be, I know everyone let down by 13 is hoping versus is good, but I think it's best to not raise your expectations at all.

60GB for the first game on the PC alone is insane, i'll wait for some comparisons to the original but I think whoever is doing the port has lost touch with reality, that's just too big for something like FF13 IMO.

Oh and old thread is old, I say we lock this and start a new on in the PC section of GH if people want to talk about the ports.

The reason the PC version is 30 gigabytes larger is because of the forced Japanese version (which was sold separately on the consoles). That means that you're forced to download the extra 30 gigabytes, even if you don't want to use the Japanese audio and lip synced cut scenes. In my opinion; it would have been nice of them to add that as a free DLC, so you'd have an option to download it if you wanted.

But wait! That's not the only stupid thing that came with this ###### port. I kid you not, but this is the only graphical options available in the game: http://i.imgur.com/fO1srtq.jpg

You can't even change the forced 720p resolution of the game (without third party tools). You only have the option to suffer it in full screen or try to save your eyes from the jagged pain (no option to turn the AA on, either) and play the game in windowed mode. Speaking of graphics: Want to play the game with 60 FPS, because you couldn't do that on the consoles? Better connect a gamepad to your computer. Because the geniuses at Square Enix made the game check for connected gamepad so much on the loop, that it can result in decreased performance and drop your FPS to peasantry level, until you connect a gamepad to your PC of course. And it better not be an xbox 360 gamepad, because the game doesn't have the on screen button mapping for it. So it will take a few guesses to find the backspace button on the xbox 360 gamepad.

And just a word of warning: backspace is your new best friend to get out of the in-game menus. If you're pressing ESC, the game shuts down without any warning if you're playing in full screen. Wanted to check the new entry in your datalog on a boss you just killed and get back to the game right after? Oh, alright... wait, what's that? You pressed ESC out of habit to quit the current menu? That's too bad for you! Now launch the game again and start from your last saved game, sucka!

But hey, enjoy the slightly better quality textures, in 720p on your 1080p monitor that you sit close to.

Oh, and the great story and fascinating characters in it, too

I'm using an xbox 360 pad and the button mappings are showing just fine. There is a setting in game to change from keyboard mapping to gamepad mapping.

There are rumors that there will be an official patch to give 1080p resolution as well. I don't know about graphics options though.

I would also agree that it's annoying to have to download 50g of data when I'm not using more than half of it. An option to not have the Japanese stuff could have been nice.

Anyhow I'm enjoying the game despite the flaws in the port.

Holy topic resurrection, Batman  :p

Could have probably done with a new one, seeing as the whole trilogy is being released on PC.

I created a new thread for the pc version the other day. Mostly because the search didn't pull up any relevant results.

Heh, sorry didn't see it in my search results (I used "site:neowin.net final fantasy xiii" in bing, because neowin's search results had nothing related to the game).

I have played the FFXIII-2 and was not able to finish it on the last part where you will defeat the 3 dragons. I'm so fked where you will need 3more hits to kill them and he will use his 1-HIT skill to kill you. Oh fker.

Then I played the Lightning's Return. I can't even kill the Last One's boss because you'll need to spam Ether to put him in the last stagger. Then I was gonna finish it until that XBOX 360 died on the hands of other players.. Now ain't that sad

    • AI is the beginning, wait until real robots replace more jobs, specifically jobs that require physical work.
    • AI is indeed eliminating jobs, and Oracle just proved it by Hamid Ganji There’s no question that AI has become the hottest trend in workplaces, and every company is trying to adopt AI-driven solutions across its operations. While some industry leaders repeatedly say AI won’t lead to massive layoffs, recent data suggest that AI is actually one of the main reasons some companies are reducing their workforce. According to Oracle’s annual regulatory filing, the company has laid off about 21,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, amid increasing AI adoption. “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” Oracle said in the filing. The software giant now has approximately 141,000 full-time employees, a notable decrease from 162,000 during the same period last year. Restructuring expenses, including severance payments, cost Oracle $1.84 billion in fiscal 2026. Additionally, around 49,000 Oracle employees were based in the U.S., while approximately 92,000 were employed internationally. Like many other companies, Oracle has fully embraced AI and concentrated much of its efforts on the technology. The company is also a key participant in the United States’ $500 billion Stargate Project, which aims to build multiple AI data centers across the country. When it comes to AI adoption and its impact on the workforce, opinions remain divided. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, whose company has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, recently said in an interview that attributing job cuts to AI is a “lazy” narrative. “The narrative that connects AI to job loss, for many of the CEOs that are doing it – it is just too lazy. AI has just arrived, how is it possible they're already losing jobs?” Huang said. However, statistics and recent reports tell a different story. According to Layoffs.fyi, 196 tech companies have laid off about 119,800 employees so far this year. Reducing staff and replacing roles with AI agents could become one of the most significant trends in the job market in the years ahead.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
