I registered and got my FF14 PS3 code, but dunno what to do with it yet, guess I have to wait and see what this special "in-game item" is first?

Not to bash your thread, and nothing against you AB, but from all the customers/FF fanatics I have heard FF 11 Online was garbage and this is suppose to be leading in the same direction. Doesnt matter what platform it was, it was bad all platforms and a lot of FF'ers have been thrown off the "online" series of the games.

All I know is, I signed up for the PC Beta for the hell of it. But I would like to see peoples response to this.

As far as the article goes, good to see youll actually get something for staying a loyal FF PS fan. The fact is, with FF expanding to both platforms, our store ratio for pre orders were 2:1(PS:Xbox) as of today. While thats not bad, at the same time it came down to some having only 1 console, some preferring specific controller, etc.

I was suprised to see the outcome as we have been selling PS3's left and right for Heavy Rain, FF, GOW, GT, etc. But, im glad PS is finally picking up, I can finally buy my brother a game besides Uncharted 2. Regardless, this year is looking good for PS3.

Have you seen the IGN review for FF? It was an 8.9 for both consoles. Thats a surprise and whats worse is the comments. But hey 60 hours of gameplay for $60 is more then most games offer now a days.

Also GOW 3, the score I was happy to see. 9.3. Ill be picking up UE next tuesday. Sad 10 hours of gameplay :(. But ill enjoy them.

Ahh just to tell everyone the promotional code you get in the email for FF14, type it in manually, copy/pasting it doesn't work - That's why I was getting an error :)

Signed up now :) I never really liked FF11 Sikh, played it for a while with a friend, but for a beta test what the heck I'll try it, not like it's costing anything (....yet).

Still no idea what the special in-game item is all about, guess we'll find out today.

FFXI is a pretty hardcore grind, great community etc but difficult to get into.

That's what I hated, if they fix that in FF14 I might be more interested.

I liked FFXI a lot, but I was lucky in that when I started playing it there were people I knew who had already 'gotten into it'. That term is ordinarily incredibly vague, and with video games pretty cliched, but with FFXI it has genuine meaning -- there really was a phase at the beginning of the game that was very unenjoyable. It wasn't until I was 'into it', and had gotten past this phase, that I really began to enjoy the game (and subsequently become addicted). Without knowing people who were able to help me and encourage me to persevere, I think I would've ditched it pretty fast. One of my best friends, who started playing about a year after I did, couldn't tolerate all the **** you get at the start, despite a pretty solid effort to get through it all. So it goes to show that, even with the help of other people at the start of the game, you're no way guaranteed to be able to see beyond the opening phase of the game.

Anyway, it seems that FFIV will be geared for more casual players, which suits me as honestly not only did FFXI demand too much in terms of commitment, but it was also harmfully addictive. I was hoping to find the money to buy FFXIII pretty soon, so hopefully I'll be able to get a copy with a code!

It's only the first run that are getting a code just to warn you, should be a lot of copies, but if you wait a while chance you might not get a code.

Is it the FFXIII registration card I need to enter, or should there be another code?

Yes, just answered you in the other topic but to clarify in here, when you register FF13 with that code it will send you the beta code for FF14 :p

I can confirm now there is absolutely no access to the PS3 beta as of yet unless you buy FF13 and use the code supplied - No idea if that will change down the line.

PC beta is open for everyone to apply.

PS3 beta is also starting slightly later than PC.

Pretty much exactly what I heard from people, which is why I was scared off. I've never played an MMO to date, but being a fan of the FF series for quite some time, I wouldn't mind making FFXIV my first, so long as they can gear it more towards casual players. I don't want to be committed to this one game just to see a meaningful payoff. I want to be able to play this alongside other games that I'm interested in.

I'll be picking up FFXIII a few hours from now, so I'll have the code. I may as well use it :).

I'll wait for other's opinions when it comes to FFXIV. FFXI was horrid. It seemed like they just tossed you into it and said "play!". There was no instruction, no indication of where to go or even how to fight. No control layout to help you figure out the menus, etc. It was a game without tutorial and therefore a bad game. I don't care how amazing it was once you learned if I have to research how to play a game it isn't worth my time.

are you a genius? every games need some research or even more and time to figure it out how the whole system works. if it is just insert the CD and play, where is the challenge in that.

no instructions? the game came with instruction (thick) booklet and there are plenty of FF11 forums and help. you might want to use google once in a while.

i had played the game for about 2 yrs and it was quite addicting and fun. im looking forward to FF14.

Yes, if you buy the disc. MMO's are strangely popular as a downloaded game. The game itself has no tutorial whatsoever. So the trial period I was so keen to try out was wasted on me wandering around for four hours hitting random buttons to figure out what the hell they do. If you need a pamphlet to play the game, the game isn't doing its job. I learned to play EVE rather quickly thanks to its tutorials. But I was utterly lost in FFXI.

BTW, the word research is in terms of GUI navigation and key binds. Hitting ESC didn't even give me a control options menu. There was litterally no way to figure the game out from within itself. BAD game design.

I've got to agree with Emn1ty on this point: there was no semblance of introduction, and no indication whatsoever of how to play, how to fight, where you are or what your objective is. I'll even admit to the fact that when I first installed the game I spent a good five to ten minutes figuring out how to move, as the movement keys are not (or at least weren't when I started) bound to WASD by default.

FFXI is immense, it's just not very open to new players, and these days 8 years down the line it's pretty hard to just pick up and play.

Coming from the original beta I can honestly say Ive had some of the best online moments of my life thus far, and made some great friends, unfortunately over the past couple of years people have moved onto other things, and I eventually hung up my torque last month prior to the Vanafest announcements. Since the announcements, Im tempted to jump back on as people will be partying again, but there's other games Id rather play.

If you played for a month free, and didnt like it you've missed what made the game great - the community. Unfortunately, as this game really has zero single player content, I can see why people wouldnt like it.

As for the FF14 beta, didnt realise it, Ill register tonight and hop on if I get the chance, at least just to experience it. Hopefully SE have learned from WoW and other MMOs that the game needs to be instantly accessible to newcomers while trying to maintain the same FF feeling that (in my opinion) FF13 just doesnt have. Ive just started playing White Knight Chronicles, and to be honest Im blown more away by the wealth of things to do in that, that FF13 will not get a look in on my system for a good while yet.
