Foxit Reader 3.2 Build 0303

Recommended Posts

Foxit Reader is the only eligible alternative reader/viewer for PDF files (eBooks). It's free, smaller, faster, and cleaner. And it starts up immediately, so you don't need to wait the annoying "Welcome" screen to disappear. Foxit PDF Reader is extremely easy to use, just double click it to start and then click open button to open your PDF document. If you want to print, click on "Print" button. If you want to setup the page layout for printing, select "Print Setup" from "File" menu. Foxit Reader supports Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7. Unlike Adobe? Reader, this one has size about than 2.5 MB, needs no installation and opens up immediately. You don't need to go throught lengthy installation process to start using Foxit PDF Reader, just UNZIP the downloaded "pdfrd.zip" package into any place you want, then run PDFReader.exe. You can set Foxit PDF Reader as your default PDF reader, so you can double click on PDF files to open them within Foxit PDF Reader.

The following is a list of compelling advantages of Foxit Reader:

? Incredibly small: The download size of Foxit Reader is only 2.5 MB which is a fraction of Acrobat Reader 20 MB size.

? Breezing-fast: When you run Foxit Reader, it launches instantly without any delay. You are not forced to view an annoying splash window displaying company logo, author names, etc.

? Annotation tool: Have you ever wished to annotate (or comment on) a PDF document when you are reading it? Foxit Reader allows you to draw graphics, highlight text, type text and make notes on a PDF document and then print out or save the annotated document.

? Text converter: You may convert the whole PDF document into a simple text file.

? High security and privacy: Foxit Reader highly respects the security and privacy of users and will never connect to the Internet without users' permission. While other PDF readers often silently connect to the Internet in the background. Foxit PDF Reader does not contain any spyware.

Foxit Reader Pro is the professional version of Foxit Reader, the popular free PDF reader.

Foxit Reader Pro supports all features provided in Foxit Reader, and includes the following functions:

* Annotation

* Text viewer and text converter

* Form filler

* Spell checker

* Advanced editing tools, including loupe tool, measure tools, image tool, file attachment tool, link tools, annotation selection tool, and more

Actually without Pro Pack, you are still able to annotate a PDF document and print it out. However when you save the annotated document, it will be stamped with an evaluation mark on the top-right corner of the annotated pages. If you purchase a Pro Pack add-on, then there will be no evaluation mark.

What's new in Version 3.2:

New features:

* Undo and Redo. Allows users to easily correct mistakes by cancelling their previous actions and quickly adding back in changes made with the Undo option, this makes it convenient for users to revoke their performances and enables better editing requirements.

* Expand Current Bookmark. Click the Expand Current Bookmark icon to expand nested bookmarks and highlight the bookmark of the current page.

* Grayscale Printing. Reader 3.2 supports to print in grayscale, using many shades of gray to represent subtle variations in color and light.

* Speed up printing. Foxit Reader has optimized the printing feature, improving the speed of printing dramatically.

* Logical Page Number Support. Display the physical and logical page number on the status bar at the bottom of the working area, enabling you to go right to the desired page fast and accurately.

What's new in version 3.2:

You can no longer unselect some of the spyware in the installer ... :(

Such as?

(Note: I'm not going to use Foxit Reader myself. I'm merely curious as to which 'spyware' it comes with.)

have they fixed the text rendering from not being aliased crap 50% of the time yet ? And is the searh even 1/10th as good as the adobe reader search yet.

heck back when I worked support and we used PDF service manuals, despite the underpowered computer we had, it was impossible to use foxit, it's search was useless compared to the awesoem document search in adobe reader, and the pdf we didn't need to search had the horrible text feature.

You can no longer unselect some of the spyware in the installer ... sad.gif

Edit: Also ... the installer is 6.60mb

Incorrect. You can still deselect all the "spyware" when installing. This installs just as 3.1.4 did. It does not force you to install anything. Also, 6.60 megs is nothing. Still a supremely fast PDF reader.

Sadly not...

PDF -XChange Viewer is a lot better at rendering text than Fox-It Reader I've found

I was talkign about the even worse text rendering issues it has on some pdf's though, where it's literally unreadable, as it all looks like low res garbled aliased crap. a bug which they never managed to fix.

Do they not do a no-install version anymore?

Yeah I copied the folder from my desktop to laptop (so no install on laptop) worked still.

Ive been using FoxIT for a long while, quite enjoy it, mainly for the text editing, love just filling out forms or writing over scanned in docs, very handy.

For whoever complained about the banner, its tiny as all hades, whilst its clearly your choice to use the software or not, who gives the toss about a tiny banner for a free and handy piece of software.

Sadly not...

Tools > Page Display > Display texts optimized for LCD screen

has any effect on this or not ?

WARNING:

The latest FoxitReader 3.2 installs the Ask toolbar spyware without user's consent realmad.gifrealmad.gif

the foxit reader executable Foxit Reader.exe is increased to 9969 KB

Try to open a PDF from the Internet and click on the search button, the Ask toolbar will appear:

asktoolbar.png

Um.... no, it doesn't. I've got this downloaded and running. Opened a PDF from the web and no Ask toolbar. Perhaps you missed a box when installing. Don't spread FUD.

It's not the Ask toolbar, it's an Ask button in Foxit Reader's Find toolbar. You can't disable it.

Foxit Reader 3.1 already had an unobstrusive "Search in Internet" button (that used Ask.com), but they replaced it in 3.2 with a graphically aggressive "red pill" Ask button, and that visual pollution borders on unwanted advertising. Until Foxit gets the message that we don't want a mandatory distracting red Ask.com button in the Find toolbar, stick to 3.1.

Andoes it go away if you pay for it ?

I'm not fan of foxit, but if it does, stop your whining, it's a free program that someone spent a lot of time coding.

Personally with the speed and quality of todays Adobe reader I see no need for this. BUT without apps like these the adobe reader might still be a resource hog of another dimension

Pay for a PDF reader? Excuse me?

Foxit Reader comes bundled with the Ask.com toolbar. But it's an optional install, so fair enough. Key word here is "optional." Therefore, if I chose not to install the Ask.com toolbar, don't slap an Ask.com ad button right in Foxit Reader itself.

yes, pay for, you know the way you also get rid of the banners and such.

They spent time coding this, and need to be paid for their work, if you're not willign to pay for it, be happy they let you use it for free at the cost of ONE TINY button. Seriously, kids nowadays thing everything shoudl be handed to them on a silver platter.

if this isn't good enough for you, use the official reader, wich is free and doesn't have a search button, has better document search and don't screw up on a lot of pdf documents.

and again, they didn't install the toolbar, but they have a ask powered search in the app itself, and the button for this helps keep this app free.

Not happy with this, well then code your own free foxit/pdf reader clone.

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
